Major League Soccer (MLS) agrees to 10-year, $2.5 billion TV deal with Apple; MLS games will no longer be on local TV

Is this good for MLS?

Yep Apple dropped 2.5 Billion on something nobody watches or will watch

Come on guise

They want live sports and they were not gonna get exclusive rights to any other North American Major Sports League for 2.5 Bill. :yeshrug:

NFL is king because it's primarily shown on over the air channels. This type of deal is why the other sports won't ever catch it here. Trying to grow an already niche audience by adding more gatekeeping is just dumb.

Disney shows the NBA finals on ABC for a reason.
Its obvious they're not there yet. NFL has been at it since 1920. They didn't get to where they're at now overnight. The NBA playoffs and Finals used to be on tape delay and shown at 11:30pm back in the days.

So they want live sports that nobody does or will watch according to you? 2.5 billion for no viewers seems unwise

Why would anyone pay to watch terrible soccer when espn+ and peacock blessing us with better leagues

The Lakers been turrible since Kobe and Paul Gasol yet fans still paying to attend games right? I got the MLS package. I also watch Premier league.

Theres no blackouts and it shows every game. It's actually easier to watch woth this

What kind of take is this?
The Red Bulls play on MSG
Subbing to Apple TV is way, way, way cheaper than a cable package with MSG

Also makes no sense people saying you need to jump through more hoops. It's one hoop. You just need Apple TV and you can watch all the games.

This isn't exactly the league that will turn the streaming war but I've been saying for years the real KO punch to Network TV would be a major sports league exclusively on streaming which will happen eventually

Apple and MLS to present all MLS matches for 10 years, beginning in 2023/

the plan is to introduce "a new MLS streaming service, available exclusively through the Apple TV app."

So, yea, an additional cost ... everybody doesn't have Apple TV, so now you're asking everybody to sign up with yet another streaming service, subject to the usual price hikes, as opposed to the convenience of just turning on your TV and finding it on.

Imagine one of the established sports leagues doing this, like the NBA Finals only available on some streaming service, the thought is just absurd ... whole league would be severely handicapping itself. :dead:

So you imagine a world where people watch the Super Bowl exclusively on a streaming service? 🧐

Again y’all are not reading the terms/article fully. There will be certain games that don’t require a subscription and or an Apple TV device.

Not sure why people are acting like the majority of the current MLS dedicated fan base is not already streaming content sports and otherwise as part of every day life.

People will attend mls games but few will buy Apple TV just for MLS. The lakers are a world wide brand meanwhile mls is a world wide joke unfortunately.
