Exactly.

My “local” grocery store hasn’t run out of anything. There was a moment when it looked like they were out of milk, but 2 seconds later a guy was there wheeling in a dolly with more to fill the shelves. The US may run out of masks and other shyt manufactured in China but we will never run out of food. Also grocery stores are one part of the economy that isn’t falling apart.

why can't we make our own masks? whats in the masks that only china has the material within their own country? all china does is make cheap plastic stuff. we can make our own masks and other supplies over here, or trade with other countries that have more secure and sanitized standards.

congratulations you played yourself. all those big box retailers are attracting the most goofs. there's literally small grocers that are free and clear of that bullshyt.

if you going to a walmart or costco type spot you must like punishment.

There is a lot of truth to this. Krogers was out of onions, bananas and oranges when I went there.

I dropped by the local dumpy dollar store in my neighborhood and they had all of that stuff and a lot more. Hell I even found cantaloupes and pineapples at the dollar store and they were on sale.

An old associate of mine and his wife swear by Shipt. They ordered grocery Thursday morning and it was at their four hours later. I've never used it personally but I've heard good things.

Two of my friends do that now for their main income. Say its a nice hustle, they making good bank. Tried to get on but they didn't accept me, just the restaurant delivery places but thats more conveninent since I don't have to shop for anyone and can just pick up the orders. Taking a break from that for now but anyways my friends say its real convenient for people and its been crazy busy lately so lots of people ordering. I might check them out if need be.

Local supermarket was cleaned out. This is what happens when you invite panic. Stupidity has won. Encountered a woman who bought three packs of 20 roll toilet paper. Said who the fukk needs that much toilet paper? People are buying stuff they would never buy on a regular basis. I put down the stuff I managed to get and walked out.

Nothing the US can’t make and I’m pretty sure they are retooling factories etc but all this shyt takes time (supply chain for materials, equipment, employees, getting certification from NIOSH etc). If we had a functioning government it would be easier but everyone is doing shyt on their own, there is no cohesive strategy/direction.
At the end of the day this was a decision made by ppl way above our pay grade.

Big businesses busted it wide open for China bc of labor costs, lack of meaningful labor/environmental standards, and bc the Chinese govt ensures those factories are fully financed etc. They don’t give one fuk about whether it opens us up to extortion etc by the Chinese bc it’s all about “shareholder value.”

Politicians/Govt supported this bc either 1) they’re busting it wide open for big business 2) they think it will keep tensions with Chinese low and potentially avert another Cold War (but this time with a bigger, richer, more strategically competent and rising power - not white trash Russians) or 3) they see China as a massive new market for all things America (think NBA, Hollywood, iPhones).



Now, a country that thinks logically/rationally, and more importantly DOESNT CENTER THE INTERESTS OF SHAREHOLDERS ABOVE ALL ELSE, would come out of this nightmare determined not to allow itself to be held hostage like this. For some countries this type of reliance is unavoidable. Japan is an island and incredibly densely populated. It doesn’t have oil or great deal of natural resources so it’s heavily dependent on the US and other energy exporters etc. No way around that problem. We don’t have that excuse. We have every natural/man made resource in abundance to the point of overflow.

Now, it’s all cool to point the finger at everyone else but we the American consumer is just as much to blame. We talk a good game about wanting shyt to be made in the US but no one wants to pay the cost. We go on Amazon and buy all kinds of shyt that gets shipped directly from China. Go to the grocery store and look for whole garlic. You’ll find some already peeled etc from China and it’s dirt cheap. The stuff grown in the US is 2-3 times the cost (I buy stuff grown in the US/Mexico).

Ultimately, the problem is that we’re just full of shyt as a nation. Fakers. The poor fake like they’re rich. The rich fake like they’re poor. The government fakes like its “for the people.” The companies fake like they care. We’re living off advantages, victories, “ royalties” etc that 1) were “God” given (geographical happenstance) 2) luck (fall of Soviet Union) or 3) result of past generation sacrifice/imperialism (post Cold War expansion). We’re the spoiled kid that inherited a family business and will run it into the ground. Or the rich kid that can bully mfers bc everyone wants to be around you and what you can give to them.

Unfortunately it’s only for so long fake thugs can pretend (nas still won )

I had to actually wait in line in the cold yesterday outside the grocery store... security was letting ppl in one at a time, a few ppl tried to sneak in but got kicked off the premises.
