Indeed. To be honest American politics is so fukked up you'd need to conduct thesis level research to really properly assess the performance of your elected officials. So many bills are allowed to have irrelevant shyt attached to them and ridiculous names and renames that it's nearly impossible for the average person, educated or not, to truly follow what's going on and still pursue their own happiness. John Oliver touches on this ridiculous, but accepted practice of repurposing bills in his segment on food waste where he talks about how a bill that started to give small business a tax break on donating unused food became an immigration bill by time it was passed:

Every election cycle one candidate will proclaim in ads how their opponent voted against a certain issue so many times leaving out the fact that he was actually voting against some other, irrelevant issues that just happened to be thrown in the bill.
Then even after all that, so much of politics is 'you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours' in nature you'd have to keep track of the favors and such too.

Dunno why liberals talk shyt about Obamacare when it's the most obvious trojan horse for single payer or public option healthcare. Increase doctor reimbursement fees (ie the $ doctors/hospitals are paid for performing procedures/exams/etc), raise the income requirement to qualify for Medicaid expansion (ie allow middle income people to qualify for Medicaid), and then change the fukking name from Medicaid to something else to kill the stigma of "Medicaid." Stringer Bell playbook, change the name. Same product.

Everything is right there for exploitation and expansion. If republicans can't dismantle it, which seems like the case, I think democrats will start this process sooner rather than later next time they take over.
