When boarding we usually wind up getting on the ship at the lobby area on deck 4 or 5, but I do remember seeing the area when we would disembark at one of the ports.
We didn't start boarding from the lobby area until we started booking increasingly more expensive ships (Compared to the lowest Carnival ones we could at first, sleeping on Deck 1), but I think that's possibly due to ports not all having the same boarding process or better yet, boarding port similar to boarding a plane walking onto the runway, or going through the tunnel from up in the terminal.
But I've been zero deck for a multitude of reasons on damn near every ship I've been on and that's where the brunt of their 'unseen' services lie, 'cause it's all cordoned off and a civilian is rarely seen in those parts lest they be on some stealth mission shyt.

Interesting fact, if at any time a passenger falls ill to the point of needing a doctor/surgery, regardless of where or how the boat was, they gotta rush towards the nearest port at full steam. I remember some old cac fell out on the dance floor
They might have sped up the boat for that incident, but I think they sedated the fukk out of her and opened her up a bit, 'cause she was mad loopy every other time I saw her.
