The concept of punishing a player because his teammates and organization is good while still demanding his team wins is incredibly flawed.
I know the basis of analytics are on/off numbers but I really think we need to focus on what a player does while he's on the court as opposed to what his team does without him. Lebron plays on a team that can't function without him because his style of play demands that he plays a certain type of way and has a certain type of player around him (Ie: mostly spot up shooters).
Russ and Harden's team strategy is set up so that they do EVERYTHING so their gaudy numbers are a product of that. I don't think it's fair to criticize Kawhi because his organization built a team that can function without him.
I just know when he was on the court this happened......
Kawhi's last 10 games: 30.3 PPG, 6.5 RPG, 3.8 APG, 2.6(!) SPG, 61% TS, 122 ORtg, 97 DRtg
In the past week
This is a about a great of a 4 game stretch as you can have especially considering if they lose all 4 of these games that they were in danger of losing, the Rockets have a real chance at passing them seeding wise. Now they're 1.5 out from the number 1 seed with GS on a back to back Friday/Saturday vs Minnesota and San Antonio. His play in conjunction with the Durant injury really has altered the western conference and that matters in the grand scheme of things (i.e.: the opportunity to win a chip) a lot more than a player on a bad team stat padding for triple doubles.
Earlier this year
Kawhi is making a real case it's just matter of how voters are going to weight all the different factors. I know if I had a vote, he'd be at minimum top 2 right now.
