Whoever wrote that story clearly created a character to be childish, inconsiderate, spoilt and ungrateful.
It is a designed to make people feel pissed off over a grown man not being so uncompromising and tactless. When your response is to agree with said character, it really is embarrassing as you are pretty much siding with a caricature.
