Seems like he learnt his lesson. What would sending him to jail achieve? If he fukks up again though you know they coming hard
Still got a debt to pay.

I say make him pay with money and a shyt load of community service and skip the jail part. I firmly believe in PUNISHMENT for crimes and not just the "rehabilitation" nonsense. This wasnt no silly hit and run where you bumped someone's car and left. This was armed robbery

Do u not believe rehabilitation should be the focus bcuz it fails so much or just bcuz u think punishment is more important:patrice:

I just read the article and I have to say something here.

As black men we need to hold ourselves and eachother to higher standards. I was listening to a Sports radio show the other day and they were talking about a kid who got charged with armed robbery. Eventually the kid was released on probation but his scholarship was revoked. Now, the host of the show was saying" Look everyone deserves a second chance. The kid made a mistake and ...."

I am fine with giving a kid a second chance but "mistake"? It got me thinking to the point where i had to look up the english definition of mistake. Because to me, making a mathematical error when leaving a tip is a mistake. Oversleeping and waking up at 9 instead of 7 is a mistake. However, doing 91 in a 60MPH like i got caught doing is not a "mistake". So surely robbing a store doesnt qualify as mistake. At least not to ME. I know it fits within the english definition of mistake when it comes to lapse of judgement. And I knw the justice system is RARELY fair to our kind. But too much tolerance goes on when we hold ourselves to these low standards.

Cant you READ, mate? I've been to the UK and saw plenty of schools and libraries so it's not like your 1st world ass dont have the facilities.

#1 I'm not a yankee. It's well known around this board that I'm Haitian.
#2 Did you not see where I said "skip the jail ..."

I believe in rehabilitation BUT punishment is a HUGE part of the deal for me.

Look, the threat of jail should deter people from crime. In that sense YES there is punishment to be handed out. Like, I know this is the civil side but when a lawsuit is filed for example, there is a reward and a PUNITIVE amount. The PUNITIVE side is to deter the accused and others from doing the same thing in the future.

You don't feel that the changes he made in his life was holding himself to a higher standard? Yes the offense is a serious one but this man has lived his life for thirteen years without further incident. Plus sending him to jail for thirteen years would only negatively effect the positive moves that he's made since that time. His family will suffer, his business may not survive, etc. If a punishment must be served, suspend his sentence and if he messes up again then drop the hammer imo.

America always wants to lock somebody up.

Crazy, we have the most people behind bars in the world. We lock people up for the silliest of things.
Man turned his life around, doing well with wife and kids and because of SOMEBODY else's mistake he gotta go back in?

We have to stop putting folks behind bars, then acting surprised when the fatherless youth(of any race) start shooting or stabbing folks. We as a country have to do better and get people help (and help people) being productive members of society instead of making everyone criminals... :snoop:
