If you knew how to rebuild engines, you could save a lot of money on a luxury car buy buying a high mileage MB or BMW and rebuilding the engine. You would be able to drive that engine for over a 100,000 miles.
The main things that wear down are the piston rings and gaskets and seals. Those parts, all by themselves, are relatively inexpensive. You would also replace the head studs and water pump too. Taking the block out, disassembling the block, cleaning it out, re-boring the piston cylinders, reassembly and putting the block back in are the major things stopping your average person from doing it themselves. The cylinder head would probably only need to get the exhaust and intake valves reshimmed if you didn't want to take it apart for a thorough cleaning.
I think engines are pretty durable. I have been looking into it. It's really the servicing and electronics. Remember the 745i?

They are like 6K now.... hella transmission problems and failing electronics. Back in the day if you could keep up with mechanical stuff and maintenance it was fine but now you need to have a computer science degree to keep these shyts running. shyt makes no sense to me because something like a transmission or a blower fan is the same in this as it is in a Civic............ and the Civic cost like 1/5th the price new.... but all the shyt on the Civic will work for 20 yrs :wtf:

NEVER buy a new car...NEVER

I've owned plenty of whips and I ALWAYS get a used car BMW or Mercedes...nikkas drop dead when they see you in a '08 CLS thinking you dropped $60k on it and you paid $18k.

I've talking countless homies out of doing something stupid like getting a brand new toyota for $20k instead of a 435xi or some ish...

"Ohhhhhh but whips when the car breaks down to fix a German car is expensive!" ...all cars break down, and those POS American and Jap cars will be cheaper to fix but break down more. I'd rather spend and extra $200 per visit to the mechanic (2-3 times per year) and have a quality automobile.

I have an M5 with 112k miles on it and the bytch runs like a dream. I'll keep her for another 8 months and throw it towards something else.

The engine in that thing costs more than the damn car....but when its running without problems the M5 is top class.

German car reliability standards are trash. If it's not new on lease I wouldn't touch it, unless you can do work yourself

I know WAY too many people pressed to get a 6 yr old Benz or BMW only to constantly bytch about maintenance cost and the car always being in the shop. Used car shops drop the prices on them jawns to entice dumb bammas pressed for that brand recognition

Maybe they just bought any ole pos from some nights on the blvd instead of going thought the proper vetting process. I know cats that got older foreigns and don't have any more problems than any other car but that's because they took the proper measures getting the car in the first place.

Brehs I bought my 09 Civic with ~70K miles for 11K in January

Check out this 2007 Mercedes-Benz S550 on Autotrader

:mindblown:

This shyt should be like $50-60K not $20K

You go back another body it's even worse

Check out this 2004 Mercedes-Benz S600 on Autotrader

Twin turbo V12 for $9K!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why do they fall off like this :damn:

A post W140 S class without service records is essentially worthless. Tends to entice young men who want a man's car with a boy's budget

W140s going for under $5000

W220 going for around the same -

Get yourself in a W126 for around $3500 or under . . get that W140 . . but a W220 or W221 without service records isn't a wise choice

The 7 series BMW's depreciate a little bit faster but it should be no surprise that the S class also depreciates. You're seeing cars that were $100,000 10 years ago now going for $5,000 . . a car is not an investment. Look at the number of previous owners will tell you a lot about a car. A first owner buys the car (remember, it's not an investment) they lost money as soon as they took it off the lot but they obviously loved the car and were infatuated by it enough to look past that. They are going to maintain the vehicle like a first owner will . . once you get to the second owner and third owner you're looking at the vehicle trickling down the economic poll, like I said you've got boys now buying a man's car with a boys budget. You think he's taking it into the Mercedes dealership for that 115,000 mile service? No way, he's putting some cheap $20 oil change oil in it

That's not true . . . MODERN German car reliability is trash

Why is that? The same reason a new iPhone comes out every year

These companies make money by selling their latest model to their loyal customers. They don't make money by pushing a vehicle for it's "reliability". This is the lesson of the Volvo 240D . . yes the car has an engine that will outlast it's drive train and is reputed for being able to run forever. What money are you making from your loyal customers keeping their old cars because you sold them on reliability and longevity?

The Mercedes model cycle is about 5 years. That's the life of the vehicle right there, the loyal customers are re-upping when the new model comes out. You sell them on the latest features and advancements

Saw a 99 e55 amg like this for 4k with 235k mile
99MercedesE55_main.jpg

:banderas: 350hp for 4k....probably would've been a money pit tho
There's no reason a man should ever be in an E class . . that's the car you get your wife. Those two circle lights? Screams feminine. The new E-class is a different story . . but still

modern bmw or mb arent worth owning. That's why a lot of rich lease them, especially if they own a business. Flip it for the new version each year

plus those old designs are hideous

If someone aspires to a Mercedes their whole life and they are finally in the bracket to own one . . it's not worth it?

It's a very subjective market
