This is the lesson of the Volvo 240D . . yes the car has an engine that will outlast it's drive train and is reputed for being able to run forever. What money are you making from your loyal customers keeping their old cars because you sold them on reliability and longevity?

The whole auto market is moving to a more planned obsolecense model. But the German luxury makers are the absolute worst with it. You hit the nail on the head.... selling cars that will run for 20-30 years is not a sustainable business model unless the manufacturer can profit from used car sales too. But cars like the S-Class seem damn near disposable. $10K W220 S600s

I've seen my friend buy brand new benzes in the early 2ks. 2003 s550 for around 100k and a sl55 for 147k cashiers check. At that time you could have bought a pre-construction home for the same price that doubled in 2yrs when real estate boomed here. Cars aint worth shyt now but the homes are still 300k+

I know a lot of street dudes who disagree. Jadakiss, Jay-Z, and Mase used to love the feminine ass W210. The Rocafella street team all drove E320s.

Plus all the AMGs (and the gawdfather 500E ) were not for wives. Just kind of a silly comment IMO.

I've owned plenty of whips and I ALWAYS get a used car BMW or Mercedes...nikkas drop dead when they see you in a '08 CLS thinking you dropped $60k on it and you paid $18k.

I've talking countless homies out of doing something stupid like getting a brand new toyota for $20k instead of a 435xi or some ish...


"Ohhhhhh but whips when the car breaks down to fix a German car is expensive!" ...all cars break down, and those POS American and Jap cars will be cheaper to fix but break down more. I'd rather spend and extra $200 per visit to the mechanic (2-3 times per year) and have a quality automobile.

I have an M5 with 112k miles on it and the bytch runs like a dream. I'll keep her for another 8 months and throw it towards something else.
