for instance, timbaland is a top 10 r&b producer to me, but hes nowhere near my top 10 for hip-hop production.

the blurred lines are one of the reasons why it was easy for hip-hop to be infiltrated and eventually dumbed down to it lowest form & over-commercialized, as we see it today.

I’m not blurring the lines. Because I didn’t know that there was some criteria. My top 5 hip hop producers aren’t the same as my top 5 super producers either. But I could see someone putting Neptune’s or Timbo in there because they do have some shyt.

Don’t shyt on Neptune’s they got just as much hip hop bangers as RnB. I know it’s the cool thing to do but there’s nothing wrong with versatility. Them nikkas got hip hop CLASSICS under they belt. And they got in the game as Hip Hop producers. Not RnB. Their first placement was Rumpshaker.

1. What criteria do you have to meet in order to be considered a "goat-level" producer?

2. What do you mean by "the lines are so blurred now, its sickening."?

2.) the fact that hip-hop has been merged in with other genres with no resistance at this point.
the fact that dude is listing "industry consensus" as a talking point for anything concerning hip-hop.
so much chit wrong with dudes posts. if youre young and/or didn't get into hip-hop after it already lost its way, you prolly wont get it.

1.) in order to be a goat-level producer, you should have more than just radio jingles as your claim to fame.
you can be a super-producer, but that's a different tag than goat producer.
again, it goes back to the over-commercialization of hip-hop.

mannie fresh produced more classic albums than neptunes, timbaland & scott storch combined,
and he did it in-house with the type of rappers who were generally disregarded when it came to matters such as critical acclaim back then.
