Game is actually set to release after all this time just a few months from now... and they were still scared shytless of actually letting everyone know/showing it off at the biggest gaming event of the year. Arc Raiders becoming what it is killed the last, slim hope of this having any chance of survival, especially since it's dropping with a price tag and not as a F2P game.

there ain’t no room for Bungie though they’re on thin ice. if this don’t at least hit number one on the PlayStation Store for two weeks, win some game awards and a few top ten lists, they’re gonna be regulated to working on the next Helldivers. This game has to be well supported for at least a year.
But we all know it’s going out like Suicide Squad.

It's less about there being room for multiple games and more the fact that Bungie decided it was a good a idea to make a type of game they have never made before for players that never asked for it. Not one person wanted this over a Destiny 3 but Bungie's hubris was far too much. It not going to go over well for them. Development started in 2019 ? We should have been gearing up for Destiny 3 release right now.

Bungie has a lot of issues - a lot - but they have the best gunplay in the business bar none. Throughout the many stages Destiny 2 went through - one thing remained constant: the untouchable gunplay

Off of that alone Marathon will have an audience. Whether it will be big enough and/or whether Bungie deliver on the other elements - especially content cadence and pipeline - remains to be seen, but yeah, this shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence as Concord just by the simple fact that we know the gunplay will be best in the industry
