Very good points. The bolded is where you start to lose it.
First of all, assuming Vick wins the job and everything, at that point, the fans would wonder if Geno would ever be the guy. See, Foles didn't get drafted to be the franchise QB whereas Geno was brought in under a new regime to hopefully replace the incumbent, who was Fez. Unless Geno replaced Vick and succeeded the way Foles did, nobody would trust Geno to one day lead the team to future success. Chip Kelly wasn't committed to either QB. Their management wasn't committed to either QB. Fez was someone else's QB. Rex has no commitment or allegiance to either Geno or Vick. Idzik though, has a lot riding on Geno. If Geno fails, that's on Idzik.
The reality is that there's nothing to gain short or long term by Vick starting. They're not winning the Superbowl. This is a 5 win team at best that fukked around and won 8 games. All they're doing is hoping their talent reflects an 8 win team because it doesn't right now. At best, they go 9-7 next year, and that's if everything breaks well, and then what, Vick leaves, nobody entrusts Geno and then you have to conduct ANOTHER QB search? See how much of a waste of time that is?
That said, barring an absolute dreadful season, Rex isn't getting fired. Even with a horrible season, Idzik's far from getting fired, so all of this is less on Vick and more on Geno. Why? Vick's contributions to the team are inconsequential.
The thing is though rex has came out publicly saying he wished they signed DRC. Fans want a big splash, they got vick, there are strong rumors that they're trying to trade for D-jax.
Yes you're 100% right, Idzik has a lot riding on geno, but what's most important is keeping his job, if it's geno or vick. The organization current regime has to win now & they will go with the better player...
