I been married for 20 years, I think the key to our success is a willingness to compromise while stile not losing each other in the process. I also appreciate my wife for taking me on when I was struggling financially and trying to raise my oldest son (from another girl) when she didn't have to do that. Sure we have are tiffs and disagreements but we also remember that we are both fighting for the same cause. Its interesting to see how much we have grown now that 2 out of 3 of the kids are essentially out the house. If I were to give any advice in choosing your partner is to not rush or settle take your time and be ready to commit.

This. We don't live near a lot of family, do finding people to watch your kids is hard. You have to make time for each other especially when you have kids and that ain't easy.

"Marriage" is a beautiful thing but the ideal marriage has been distorted by too many people who aren't built for marriage getting married. The truth is people love to say half of all marriages fail completely forgetting that means half of all marriages SUCCEED. We only HEAR about the bad ones because those are the ones being projected... doesn't mean it's not an enjoyable experience. All of my friends who aren't happily married or are cheating are dudes I know wouldn't be able to stay with one girl anyone but instead of understanding that they would rather blame it on "Marriage"...

Overall you seem kinda negative but this makes sense. You hopefully don't need to throw away happiness but different things (security and this new family structure) makes you happy as opposed to the single lone Wolf life
