A lot of them were bought off like a lot of the Black spokesmen and politicians today, and the rest couldn’t see the long term implications.

There’s a small paragraph in Zinn’s ‘A People’s History of the United States’ where he talks about Rockefeller speaking at a meeting of the country’s most prominent white businessmen of that era who were against integration. Rockefeller explained how the integration of the Black dollar would only help white businesses in the long term.

Anyone who thinks the forced, begging integration that took place was good for Black people is a damned idiot, and all you have to do is look at the condition our people are in right this moment to understand that.

Who specifically was bought and paid off to support integration when they were against it?

Also you don’t think ppl saw the inconvenience of trying to shop, and utilize services of those only provided by black ppl? Like yeah I think putting money into black business is essential but if I want to buy from a white owned business or go to a school that I choose due to convenience shouldn’t that be an option without issue?

I just find it hard to believe that prior to 1964 black ppl were harmonious, wealthy and on the verge to an economic utopia and it all got ruined after CRA was passed.

Like nikkas saw Rosa Parks causing a ruckus just to sit where she wanted on a bus and black ppl were like “fukk it we can create our OWN public transit service because we have the funds and resources to do so”

We went from having businesses and working our way to being competitive in this country and having some political leverage to owning absolutely nothing. Being competitive at nothing that matters. So many factors and even with hindsight, who really knows. At that moment we did exert a large amount of energy and focus just to be level with other whites but what good is status without financial stability in a capitalistic society. I think you’re saying the same thing. Basically we got this so called power to vote in an election and be equal, but still ended up electing individuals that systematically destroyed the black family using a complicated system completely ran by your oppressor.
