I've been wondering about this and this season has felt off to me and I have finally realized why. An extinction level event is beyond AoS pay grade. This would be more on the level of something the Avengers should handle. I'm starting to wonder if what they think it's supposed to happen isn't actually what happened. What it they are actually on a wild goose chase and the future they saw was actually caused by Thanos, who is a real destroyer of worlds. Either way, whatever is supposed to happen shouldn't be anything handled by Coulson and company.

This entire season feels like it's caught in the framework.
Shield doesn't exist anymore so the fact that they all think it exists is
