I’d imagine its a BIT more than just being an investor as he’s also signed to the label itself.

Not saying he’s the President or anything like that but i’m sure Nas himself could directly influence change for the better if he let it be known he is not pleased with discriminatory business practices.

Sure, he does have the power of his platform to call out the bullshyt both publicly and privately.

My view is - if he doesn't exert that sort of control, he shouldn't allow himself to be used as a shield or deflector to take the heat off. They made the mess - they should clean it up.

But on the other hand, if he does come out and say something and he does have some sort of control or influence - he shouldn't have let it get this bad.

He's not in the same city as the HQ.

That's not a good enough excuse. He's never been there? He's never called Sacha and asked him how things are going? What does it look like up there? How are they treating you? They putting our people on? Etc.

This isn't limited to Nas, it goes for anyone. You can't not only put your name, but your face to something and then let it be run however and by whoever.

Like I said if it was a simple investment opportunity and he has ZERO control and influence then he better not use his voice to defend them or talk about correcting mistakes that aren't his. He's not their puppet.

But if he does have any influence or control, then he is in some way to blame for it getting and staying that way.

Nas nor anyone else ever claimed he ran Mass Appeal. This isn't a Roc Nation situation where the rapper owns the company, so the buck stops with him. If I'd criticize anything about this...I'd just say I wish Nas and many other black celebs would demand more in exchange for being the black face of these companies. You want to use my name for your shyt? Hire some black creatives. It should be that simple. If I'm walking through your office being introduced to your team - IE people who have been hired to create content about black culture - I should see black faces. Everyone doesn't have to be black. But I gotta see enough of a diverse group of people to know the company can create diverse content.

You don't even know what the relationship is between all of them is. Nas can a hands off call me if you need me type of person. The girl said Sascha isn't involved with hiring people. I don't think this is something they expected. I'm not passing blame out to anybody. People love pointing fingers. But I expect the company that's in charge of curating the first hip hop museum to have atleast 50 percent black people working there.

Yeah, this is the mistake. Not that you have to be dedicating hours a week to this shyt but your name is heavily associated. Make sure nothing is happening that you are against. And having barely to no Black people working at a company you have an ownership stake in should fall in that category. I'm sure he is busy but you gotta stay on top of shyt like this.

I heard a little story about Genius.

one of them kept saying Cam'ron was the reason they created it. apparently Cam wanted a percentage of the company at a certain price and got told no, they sold it for a lot of money and Cam missed out on a nice payday and since then he won't do anything with them in any capacity.

one of the Genius wife is/was a big Cam fan too. has a Cam'ron tattoo.
she worked in politics and was friends with Lena Dunham (red flag 1) and was in a relationship with Terry Richardson (red flag 2).

I'm sure DatPiff is another website created by a white guy because he loved Dipset mixtapes.

Rap nerds will remember that when Genius was first introduced, the creators went on Combat Jack's podcast and it was a total disaster. They don't know shyt about hip hop, outside of being Dipset fans, and just hearing them talk about the genre made me feel uneasy. The same type of unease when I hear Lil dikky talk about hip hop. These guys don't respect the genre, they probably laugh about it in private. But they put on a smirking show in public and get away with it. I remember them saying the goal was to expand Genius to other things, which they sounded far more interested in. Like a Law Genius that could explain legal jargon for instance. A good idea, of course, but another example of how white hipsters use hip hop as a bridge to what they really want to do.

Bingo.

This is a part of the reason I won't watch that Lil' dikky show Dave on FX. No matter how good people say it is.

Before it came out I read on interview where he said these two things to answer two different questions:

"I think, initially, I rapped to just have a voice in general. A comedic voice. What’s the best way for people to hear my voice?" and "But from age 40, probably, onward, I think my shelf life as a rapper is going to start really dwindling. And it’s going to have to transition. So the second half of my life, I’m going to need to figure out the other thing. And I think one of the other things is going to be me being an actor and a writer"

To me - he's not a rapper who got a TV show, he's a guy who always wanted a TV show and used rap as a way to get it.
