You gotta be a special kind of stan to say C-Murder was bigger than Jay in 1998 and then ask what was Jay doing in 1997? Dude had a platinum album in 1997, was featured on three of the biggest albums of that year.

Breh, we're talking 1998. When I look at 1998 and who ran that year, Master P is like Top 5, but these artists were clearly bigger:

Lauryn
X
Jay

And one could argue, Lauryn was R&B, but it was her rap records that put her over the top. And to answer the question of what those artists were doing in '97, they were building buzz.

And why are you comparing Jay's status in The South to P. Master P made music that was Southern. Jay is an outsider and nothing he was making before "Money Ain't A Thang" was remotely Southern. That's not to say he didn't get play here or he didn't have a following, but The South wasn't his target market. Same goes for X, but when the album dropped, he was THAT dude and yes he was bigger than P in 1998. He had that call and response, hype sound that definitely had appeal down here.

Make it make sense breh.

1998, Jay-Z dropped in September. How was he bigger than P when P dropped the Last Don and other anticipated albums before Jay-z release in the Fall? in 1997 the tail end, P was the hottest thing in the game going in the year 1998. What song in 1997 was being played by southerners by Jay-z? Come on dude. I lived in real time when all these things were going on. Nobody on the South Coast was checking for Jay-Z, and I can say the same in other regions not named East.

Breh Jay-Z was not bigger than P in no 1998. Stop it breh. You can't using 2019 logic to make a claim breh that took place in 1998. First off the game was wayyyyy different than what it is now.

It took you time to build up your name, especially when dudes didn't really gravitate to your music like that.

How could he be that dude when a whole region, several wasn't even messing with Jay? Was the West Coast heavy on Jay, Midwest?? All I can recall is dude being a niche on the East Coast in 1998.

C-Murder dropped his Life and Death album in March of 1998 with how much radio play did that get, none, but who on the tank was everybody waiting for their album to dropped? This nikka?? He had the anticipated album to come out at that time. Lol what is you talking about fam

Dude what song was bigger than Akickdoe?? that Jay-z had prior to his release in September?

Dude you really wasn't around to even make a comment like that, as I stated, I was in the clubs, the streets, the parties, the school dances, college parities and nikkas were not requesting Jay-Z, when all this was happening, I was Black Events that was happening at the time. This aint 2019 where you could listen to nikkas albums on the internet.

he did an awful job at picking the singles. it dig big numbers just off the name alone but imagine if he had hits to go along with it.

as for the album, its a few step downs from his previous albums, and this should've been his last solo as advertised before he ruined his legacy.

but still dope nonetheless. top 10 release for that year and at great value. a double cd for the price of one, with an addicive album cover. my favorite cover to this day.

im still mad about that "make em say ugh" remix tho. SMH.
"lets get em" remix was dope but they should've left that one alone too.
im glad that didn't become a trend in hip-hop.

I think every no limit album was garbage besides ice cream man and the last meal. I remember last week some dude was going to war for silk the shocker and saying he's a legend :francis:saying that no limit and the hot boys are better then 8ball mjg :mjlol:

buddy was right

only on the internet is this contested.

Breh, C-Murder's album was anticipated by people who were No Limit fans and Southern Hip Hop. "Akickdoe" wasn't huge outside of that base. "Who You Wit" and "City Is Mine" were easily bigger.

How is going platinum a failure. The fact that you think C-Murder was bigger than Jay Z in 1997/1998 proves you're a delusional No Limit stan.

LOL, Lil' Soldiers NEVER got a plaque. That's the level of delusion you have going on here.

You're wrong. Going into 1998, "Who You Wit II" was still in rotation. He had songs from Streets Is Watching soundtrack that were getting play and I'm in GA. I remember V103 making a big deal about Jay Z and Master P retiring. If I'm not mistaken he was talking about retiring after Vol. 1. I know people who had Vol. 1 and I wasn't even a Jay fan at the time, but he was consistently dropping heat and it all culminated into Vol. 2.

And on top of that you're lying. Nobody was checking for Jay in The South, but Jermaine Dupri, a Southerner put Jay Z on a single. Take your own advice and make it make sense.

Akickdoe wasn't huge?? Dude what is "huge" to you?? When you see it on the TV 50/11 times? This was not a single, hell did C even have a single off that album, or promo? Having a single and video is considered huge to you huh? Breh, everywhere you went "Akickdoe" was being played. Again, If you wasn't old enough to be outside, you wouldn't know how "huge" Akickdoe was when it came out. You're acting like NL fans were a small base of ppl breh. Lol. These dudes were known worldwide breh. Not just in the South.

Who you with, City is Mine, were not club bangers or party starters. Nobody pulled up to no event bumping those songs. Where would you even play those songs at??? At a school dance, college party?? Hell No. Again, the internet was not around.

You do know C-Murder was a part of TRU, TRU 2 DA GAME was a huge album, You do know C-Murder was on the Bout It Bout It, and Ghetto D albums, You do know C-Murder was able to score Pimp C and Bun B on his 1st album, now who does this if nobody is checking for this guy and if he didn't have the most anticipated album coming out early that year??

Lil Soulja never got a plaque?? wha? Breh you wasn't around or wasn't listening to music back then like how you are now, You're trying to fit your mindset of today, into 1998. Check your facts to see how much that album sold with no promo

Bayou Classic, The biggest black event next to Freak Nic,

Every Black person came down to this event, or would be in attendance, those who are from that era knows how big this event was and still is, I'ma use this one event. Canal Street, French Quarter, do you really think folks were bumping Jay-Z ANYTHING at this event with All black ppl from all over the coasts?? or would folks be bumping C-Murder album?

Jay-z did a joint wit JD and that barely got any noise but you expect me to believe nikkas were heavy down here on Who you wit and City is Mine?? stop it breh

Again, 97 going into 1998 Master P was bigger than Jay-z and DMX, also C-Murder was bigger than Jay-z

If it wasn't Xscape, Da Brat, or Mariah Carey, Ghosttown DJ that dude JD was not in folks ear on the rap side of the game like that. Please stop with the reach as if folks were checking for JD to drop a rap album Lol stop breh

I know how big "Akickdoe" was here where I'm from. That doesn't mean the whole world was bumping that song or that it was huge outside of The South. Breh, Jay had songs that were being played everywhere and those were just minor hits.

C-Murder was not huge and there was a point where C was one of my favorite rappers.

And it's laughable in here to see you make a fool of yourself over the Lil' Soldiers. These kids never sold any records. I remember when they debuted on We Can't Be Stopped. I remember there being hype over them being kids. Then when that album dropped, even No Limit fans avoided that album because most of No Limit's fanbase weren't trying to hear children rap over the type of music No Limit was making.

Breh, UGK have featured on lesser known artists than C-Murder.

JD sold 1 million copies of Life In 1472. Yeah, dude is essentially bigger with R&B acts, but his debut rap album made noise. His biggest solo records don't even feature any of the artists you listed.Furthermore, none of that really matters. JD is still a Southern artist who reached out to Jay when you claimed nobody down here was into Jay like that.

Boot camp sold 300k copies breh. How did the album didn't sell.

Before the C-Murder feature, what lesser known artists outside of NL did both PIMP and Bun B featured on?

1 million records sold with 3 singles on a major is a good thing in 1998, with one of the biggest artist in 1998 (Jay-Z) being on your single? ? Since you said Jay was so big that year, wouldn't his album sell more?? Juvy sold more with Lol. Come on breh, make it make sense.

Breh JD reached out to Jay, got the man on his single and only sold a million after all the promo he got. Stop it, as I stated, Jay was not as big as you think he was in 1998.

That Jay-Z song with JD wasn't bigger than Silk's It Aint My Fault breh Lol

Everything you posted is irrelevant. I never posted how big JD's album was. I said JD as a Southern artist reached out to Jay for a collabo in response to you saying nobody down here was checking for Jay.

Stop stanning so much.
