I thought the same thing at first but after thinking about it... wildfires move quick and can cover a dozen or more feet in seconds. I don't blame them for not stopping. I'd like to think I would stop for her, but if my family was in the car, I wouldn't stop for anybody. I would protect my fam above everything.

I've been out to maui a few times in the last couple years and both times I was surprised at how dry the inlands were. Crazy times we're living in. I wonder how the history books will describe this era in a few hundred years or so.

As someone who's dealt with multiple wildfires - they did the right thing sadly. People generally have zero clue how fast fires can cut your routes off, smoke can choke you out, or how heat can melt your tires.

In the last big cali wildfires, it was folks not realizing that leave means leave NOW. Trying to carry someone when the air is trash is a quick way to get surprised and make a bad situation worse.

If anything, the folks that left her out there alone in the first place were the ones who fukked her over.
