It’s just that for some stupid reason people find Stephen’s attitude and performance more entertaining.

I think the collaboration ran its course in part because of what Max said: essentially Stephen got tired of debating a smarter guy. But also because he just didn’t have the same chemistry that he did with Skip. Probably because they’re both low brow morons.

His time on First Take was clunky. He's just not a natural with quick witted hot takes, couldn't make his point in under 2 min, and had no comedic timing, etc

You can also look at when he was on HBO Boxing on a live broadcast, he was always the 3rd guy on the mic

This is why I don’t watch these debate shows or listen to talk radio to begin with.

If you want to get thoughtful, honest understanding and debate on sports, it’s very hard to do in short bursts.
