Kellerman is just not fit to be a lead on a live TV broadcast, it is what it is. It's just not his skillset
He thrives better in a long form, slowed down form of media where he can flesh out his thoughts and give longer breakdowns. This is why his current show, The Ring Magazine Podcast, it's a longer 2 hour show. He's doing great at that. Also did Radio, great at that as well

His time on First Take was clunky. He's just not a natural with quick witted hot takes, couldn't make his point in under 2 min, and had no comedic timing, etc

You can also look at when he was on HBO Boxing on a live broadcast, he was always the 3rd guy on the mic :manny:

I agree with both you and Remote.

He really didnt fit the show. Not because he was too smart but because he thinks and behaves like he does (a white Marcellus/Ocho). Many of his takes were basic as fukk and you could tell he was trying to hard on others. Now he does make a point about SAS needing bullshyt to play off of. SAS was smart to see that the two man debate model was about to fall off. Only the originators (Tony and Mike) are still around and successful.

Max Kellerman is a better sports commentator than Stephen A.
Always has been.

It’s just that for some stupid reason people find Stephen’s attitude and performance more entertaining.

I think the collaboration ran its course in part because of what Max said: essentially Stephen got tired of debating a smarter guy. But also because he just didn’t have the same chemistry that he did with Skip. Probably because they’re both low brow morons.

It's not the job of SAS to be a better commentator than Kellerman and others. That's never been his job. His job is to have discussions and drive ratings, and he does both very well. I don't agree with him on everything, but his job is not to have to outwit everyone.

Max actually explained the situation on First Take really well. You can't have twelve hot takes every single day. You have to have a few hot takes where you can get people to say "Hmmmm, I don't agree, but I see what he's saying", and that's what he was able to do. SAS has the job of acting flabbergasted and having big reactions to everything, and he does that well too. There is a reason Skip ended up struggling on Undisputed, and that's because almost every take of his was a hot take.:skip: .

I do think it was extremely disrespectful and pathetic how SAS went on to take about Max on all of these shows. It becomes extremely apparent the last year Max was on the show (especially the last few months) that SAS didn't want him there. The passive aggressiveness from SAS and flat out disrespect on every single show was actually quite cringeworthy to watch.

Kellerman reminds me a bit of a Rich Eisen. He can thrive in a setting like that where it's not as much about "entertainment" as it is real discussion. Not every person in sports media can be the face of a show. There is a lot that goes into it. You can host a show like Rich Eisen, but if you're not loud, energetic, and a bit crazy, you're not going to succeed being the lead on a show such as First Take.

The same Max Kellerman who said Kobe wasn’t top 10 all time

Max was terrible talking about anything other than Boxing. Stephen A wanting him gone was justified
He's terrible with boxing, he's better outside of boxing. A lot of people think Kobe wasn't top 10. 10 is a lot of players that's not that bad of a take tbh

Surely it can be argued. His case is almost as debatable as Shaq's.

TYRONE GA!
Damn Max basically just said Stephen A didn’t want the smoke anymore. Max is a smart dude. Even in that interview with Bill Simmons, he’s almost always making his counter host look stupid in comparison.
so many people get in their feelings when in the same space as cats they know are smarter than them in certain areas.

applies so many places in life man.

Max was fine on the original ATH. He was the face but wasnt asked to really carry the show. He could just throw his stuff in here or there but Woody and co. did the heavy lifting. He was the cool whiteboy that knew hip hop and pushed back on the establishment. Now that we have pods with young black folk that novelty isnt there. He couldn't carry his own show on Fox. I have heard good things about him and Marcellus but I never listened. Plus radio is a different beast.

That’s the thing Max is a Radio/Podcast game same with Bill Simmons, and Bomani Jones. They aren’t really tv people but are so good at the radio podcast thing they end up getting chances at a medium they just aren’t good at.
