I agree with the premise of this thread, trek was always about a future where humanity gets over itself and starts working together to explore the stars.
I'm a big sci-fi fan, warhammer 40k is my jam but I understand its too grimdark and violent for most and that's okay. The biggest influence in that series is 'The Warp' which Star Trek and Star Wars doesn't detail but in 40k its in am immaterial universe where the 4 chaos gods and their host reside that you must travel through to go from a to b. ( They are constantly working and do cross into the material )
The closest thing most would have seen to understand the warp is the movie 'Event Horizon' which many fans consider 40k based but far earlier in time.
Its a nightmare region.
Following the vast 40k library, my next favorite is Dune.
In terms of commercial sci-fi TV shows, BattleStar Galactica has been the series I have most rewatched. Its just really well done and more adult than trek or star wars. That opening credit
Still, Trek is far superior to SW and will always be great in terms of storyline and themes.
