About the Pilot

The 2023 New York State budget mandated the MTA select
and operate one bus route in each borough to be fare free
for 6-12 months.
Our route selections considered:
• Equity for low income and disadvantaged communities,
access to employment and commercial area(s)
• Existing route capacity, limited crowding conditions,
service adequacy
• Minimal overlap with other MTA bus services
• Fare evasion levels

Evaluation Summary

Main Pilot findings:
1. Ridership increased on all routes
2. Limited new ridership: existing riders used the fare-
free routes more than new route riders
3. Service performance had mixed results
4. Fare evasion on nearby routes was consistent with
systemwide rates
5. Foregone revenue and related costs amounted to
more than $12M over nine months of the Pilot

We just watched an extremely local election in which two men (Mamdani and Sliwa) focused entirely on the city of New York, whereas everyone else focused on nationalizing (Trump, Kamala, trans, etc) or even globalizing (Israel) it. The results make it clear who was right. So going forward I have zero interest in further nationalizing this or wondering about Mamdani-type candidates elsewhere. I don't even know what that means. Because if you just mean a leftist then that's going to look very different in...Pennsylvania. We know what it looks like in Minnesota: DFL, Walz, etc. So the point shouldn't be where will the next Mamdani be. The question is what does the farther left candidate look like, under acceptable parameters within each state. And is that candidate actually good at politics (like Mamdani) or not? Because Omar Fateh just showed you what being bad at politics looks like in Minnesota, which isn't afraid of socialism or worker parties.

Republicans are gonna keep trying to nationalize this, call random politicians "the new Mamdani" and guess what. It won't work.

I also expect democrats to focus much more on affordability. I've said it before but I don't care whether it's Mamdani style or abundance. You need to talk about costs and DELIVER. With specific plans. While attacking Trump, tariffs, inflation, etc nonstop. That's the blueprint. All this other shyt does not matter. Including trans shyt. I would compare those culture war issues to having a girlfriend. When things are going well she doesn't care if you forget to fold the socks. When things are going bad she cares a lot when you forget to fold the socks. It becomes something for her to needle you with. A metaphor for you not doing the little things in our relationship and oh you can do xyz but you can't fold the socks??? Give the American people a good economy, lower prices, lower housing costs etc and they'll gladly ask Hunter Schafer what her pronouns are.

End of the day the ecomomy is what matters, running on nothing can work when the ecomomy is good but it becomes a problem when things aren't looking good which allows fascism to exist. While spanberger won this timr, her next go around is going to be significantly more difficult if she doesn't come up with a plan instead of Trump is bad. She has to run on and make Vas populations lives better, I assume in 29 republicans will run a better candidate across her as well—so coasting off a bad ecomomy won't really be possible, especially considering you're in power. She can’t run again, Virginia governors only serve one term by law. But whoever succeeds her will live or die based on who the president is, what the economy is like, and how Spanberger did. At the same time we may also see a complete re-alignment in Virginia. That state is so reliant on government jobs I can’t imagine them supporting a Trump acolyte again. A lot of people got fired for nothing. Including a lot of white people. They’re not gonna forget that.

Spanberger was running against a Republican.

Mamdani was running against a Republican and Democrat with very high name recognition and a family name that has carried weight in NYC for decades.

If Mamdani was facing a Republican one-on-one, it would have been 70-30 or something like that.
