I can't say he is. Even though boxers are taking punches from someone roughly their same weight, I tend to think the impact of those punches go up exponentially rather than linearly as you move through weight classes. I've seen Floyd get blasted a few times in his career, if he were a heavyweight he may not have been able to keep standing. So I gotta go with Ali for doing what he did in the heavyweight division over what Floyd's doing in his division. But the flip can also be said that some of Floyd's straight rights would be brutal as a heavyweight.

Skillwise I think he's better than Ali though.

He does back up his talk in the ring! And skill wise dude is great.

But people only recognise your true greatness when you retire and they look back on your career. I'm sure people were also hating on Ali a lot back in the day but he was entertaining and boxing needed him, now he's an icon.....he did Frazier dirty though.

Floyd can brag about the TBE but he will always be challeneged with why he didin't fight this guy at this time etc..

I've just had a similar discussion about music and sports recently.

Take football for example. If you made a great catch, people don't have to tell you it's a great catch. You did it. You knew it was. You don't need anybody to tell you how great it was. People will throw the cocky label on you, but it doesn't erase the fact it was a great catch. Again, no need for external validation.

I won't call him better than Ali but that's the kind of mentality he should have. I'm sure him thinking he's the best has played a big role in his success, confidence goes a long way.

Wasn't Ali calling himself the GOAT early in his career? We know he's got an argument now but at the time that must have been very controversial.
