does floyd even own a passport?

i can't recall him ever leaving the vegas plantation to fight an opponent.

ain't nothing like being internationally acclaimed and getting genuine love from the motherland.

Maybe he doesn't leave Vegas, because Vegas pays the most? :ld:

I don't get this logic....who can you seriously challenge Floyd on about not fighting?
It depends on how it's framed. Floyd didn't fight Pac at his best. He didn't fight Margarito. The fight didn't happen with Mosley until many years after it should have. He didn't fight Paul Williams.

Now it's all about perspective. In retrospect some don't think much of Williams and Margarito but at the time they were contenders people clamored for the fight. You've also gotta remember Floyd took off for a couple of years and he only fights twice a year anyway so obviously he's not gonna he taking on all comers. He doesn't have the need or motivation to do so.

Don't get me wrong, I personally think Floyd wins all of those fights, I'm just making the point that there were definitely fights left on the table. But you can essentially say that about any fighter in the last few eras - hell, even a Bernard Hopkins who we know doesn't duck anybody missed out on a couple of fights for various reasons. And also I'm not saying its Floyds fault he didn't have these fights, I'm just saying that just like with anybody else there's always going to be questions of his resume if you seek them out.

It doesn't really matter what he says. Ali has an untouchable legacy and image. Truth is, in the eyes of 95% of the population Ali will always be the GOAT. I think that when you reach a certain level of success you should believe you are the best. 47-0 is no joke.

You must be really young.... Ali can be considered a GOAT, but it wasn't public opinion(white folks cosign) until there was a strong marketing\PR campaign to clean up his image....

America hated Ali when he was winning and rebuking white supremacy, but loved him when he was no longer a threat and obviously a shell of himself, and a strong marketing campaign galvanized that empathy

I think dominating the heavyweight division is far, FAR more valuable than anything Floyd has done. Ali straight up dismantled his opponents oftentimes, Mayweather fights for the judges.

I can't say he is. Even though boxers are taking punches from someone roughly their same weight, I tend to think the impact of those punches go up exponentially rather than linearly as you move through weight classes. I've seen Floyd get blasted a few times in his career, if he were a heavyweight he may not have been able to keep standing. So I gotta go with Ali for doing what he did in the heavyweight division over what Floyd's doing in his division. But the flip can also be said that some of Floyd's straight rights would be brutal as a heavyweight.

Skillwise I think he's better than Ali though.
meh...you cant use this argument for Floyd against Sugar Ray Robinson who is often in contention

I cant fault Floyd for having the gall to say this

You can pick apart a lot of people's resume like that. Paul Williams and Margarito aren't "legend makers" in my eyes. Having them on the resume adds nothing. I think Floyd's number of world champions that he has fought out weighs not fighting those two.

Ali beat some of the greatest fighters ever in their prime while being a heavyweight. Be better than Sugar Ray then come back and finish this story Floyd. You never fought anyone great, when they were great. This Pacquiao fight is his to lose but he doing a bit too much even by Floyd standards.
