Obviously, if we’re comparing them at 19, Mbappe is better but Henry is the GOAT striker to me (biased Arsenal fan) and he got robbed of the Ballon d’Or twice (Nedved & Cannavaro). Henry was the easily the best striker in the world for 6 year period (R9 had injury problems and Shevchenko couldn’t do it outside of Milan).

I’m excited to see if Mbappe can continue his ascension but we all know football isn’t linear. Michael Owen was one of the best strikers in the world from 18-23 and then injuries ruined him.

Ballin d'Or was almost like the Heisman in that it seemed they looked for reasons not to give it to the obvious pick year after year. Not until Messi/Ronaldo separated themselves so completely from others with their insane stats did they eliminate a lot of philisophical debate.

To keep it 100 though, that 03/04 Milan side only lost two games all season in the league. I would have given it to Henry too but I think Sheva falling off at Chelsea and the lasting lore of the 12 draw invincibles has made it seem like it was a robbery This is still when Serie A is considered the best league in the world and is proving it with CL wins as PL teams keep coming up short.

Nedved was bossing games 90 minutes at a time the season before, won the league comfortably, beat Barca and Real in the CL (Nedved still bossing) and then lost in a final Nedved didn't play in because Spice Boy Steve is a p*ssyhole.

But yeah I would have voted for him in '04 but the fair perception of the EPL worked against him imo.

As has been said, Mbappe is better at 19, but probably won't be as good as prime Henry. Mbappe has elite speed and finishing, but needs to develop in other areas.
