Interesting. I'm not sure that I agree completely in regards to McDonald's but overall I get what he's saying.

So he uses this 1979 McDonald's commercial as one his examples. I'm not sure I have a problem with this commercial especially in 1979.
A Black churchgoing family. Father representation. Everyone seems happy. I even like the gospel inspired music. Am I bugging???

Interesting topic. With all this being said you gotta include more about, Tom Burrell, a trailblazer in getting ads targeted to black people.

He has a dope Planet Money episode.



Also more about him.


Overall I think he was trying to do what he felt was right at the time but based on a few things he said on the Planet Money podcast, even he wonders if it was the right move in hindsight.
