That ross deal/cosign was enormous.. For wale too... Rare you see signings under a major rapper come to success.. Did wonders for both
One thing you gotta give Ross is that he makes sure his artists actually get some shine, unlike a lot of other rappers who sign cats under em. Most tend to sign ppl then pretty much put them on the shelf...

I don't understand how Meek's sound isn't mainstream. Meek followed the blueprint for what the current urban mainstream is. None of Meek's features on his album are a mystery. Meek gets radio play. They play Meek in the club all the time. I don't get it.

Meek is no different than 50 ross or jeezy

How is dis dude so successful for someone that makes the music he does?
not a shot at him, maybe even a compliment.

What happened?
Maybach Music.

Ross promoted him excellently and took him overseas. Dude is winning due to his WORLDWIDE fame. Same thing with Wale. i bet the same folk "shocked" that Meek is doing well are the same people that were making fun of him for signing with MMG.

While you clowns were busy hating on Ross, he was making moves and expanding his brand. main reason i fukk with Ross. His business acumen is top notch.

he's the only one in his lane...

young, fly, flashy, street nikka

most people you gonna name who's also doing this are older... or not fly, more grimey... or not street, more song makers

he's the fab type dude of our gen... and under 30 or so... i don't see anyone else in that lane right now

drake ain't a real street dude, kendrick ain't on that.. cole ain't on that... every nikka in the chi is not fly... smurda ain't out here and only had 1 hit.. ross old, jay old, wale older but not a street dude anyway... badass not on that fly shyt... fab old...

the whole fly car, fly jewels, thick bytch, street nikka, bike life, goons with me, new rolli..... blah blah... that was dead for a long time... really he got no comp on that level... even he says it all the time... "i do it to show the industry that you can still be gangsta.. you can be like me... you don't have to make those tracks.. them other dudes is weird.. i can't relate to what they talk about... wale just a college boy :mjlol:"

shyt like that... who else is in this lane?

edit: and by mainstream... i guess OP was saying he doesn't have the "make the club banger" "make the ladies joint" "make this one for the kids" "put chris brown on this one" type of music (prior to this album) type of music

he's probably wondering why a street rapper is selling like this when he should be regulated to mixtape releases and vlad tv

Maino a goon that harms/ kills black folk with a drop of a hat over "disrespect."

His music sucks and it took a video model Rosa Acosta to say it out loud.

Yeah, but that early 00s shyt that Meek be on was assisted heavily with Ross and trap beats that most Philly rappers never really rapped on, during a regular basis.

That fly hood nikka already gotten him jail time, like his predecessors, so that is why most rappers in the industry don't be on that anymore.
