This was a nice response. Meek said in that radio intrview he was gonna have fun with this. The only nikkas that have taken Kendrick's verse to heart are dusty, no career having cats looking for a little buzz by dissing one of the biggest names in the game. His actual peers are taking it as competition. nikkas are just so thirsty for some 90s/early 2000s diss tracks that they're judging this on that level. Kendrick will most likely collab with the majority of the artists he named in the next year. These cats aren't beefing. If you believe Kendrick is not a street cat you crazy, Kendrick going the Dj Quik route with his craft, remember the 87-93, LA/Compton was gang central music wise, Ice- T, Nwa, CMW, The Pound etc, all the crips was active in a major way with gangsta rap,Dj Quik had fun talk about fornicating with harlots, partying, kicking it with his potna's and told a couple street stories but never killed 60000 people before the album was done.

Most of the song is just him flaunting his skills...the only line where u can remotely point out he's asking ppl to step they bars is the "What is competition im tryna raise the bar high" but in the context of the previous bars its an appeal more towards recognition...hell he doesnt even mention "bringing lyricism back"

95% of the controversy about the verse comes from people thinking he's dissing all the cats he mentioned and the rest of these fools are butt hurt about the "King of NY" line. yeah it's just braggadocios rhymes and a million other MC's have said similar things before but the fact that he's a fairly new rapper, he's cocky, he's getting sales in a time when many aren't and he's doing it with concept songs & complex rhyme structures instead of generic beats and mediocre rhymes about money & hoes.
