Jay Z appears to seek acceptance into wealthy circles. Many super wealthy people probably still view him primarily as a rapper. In theory buying art can help him gain notoriety outside of rap. And how do you know he’s buying art right? Do you personally know super wealthy collectors who’ve made a lot from art or are you involved in the high end art industry?
Not to brag but as of my last convo with my art dealer...I made it into a wealthy art collecting couple from NO. They bought 3 pieces. So I guess I am now in the right place career wise. Plus I got a dope artist talk coming up where I will donate a huge art piece too at the artist talk. So I think honestly my big breakthrough is coming.
That being said, I personally believe that one day Jay-Z may be in the realm of black art trading-dealing realm. He knows other wealthy rich black people. Art game is like any other game, the clients take risks. They can buy your art and get bunk. Or they can hit and get rich.
I know for me I started making art tprofessi9nally in August 2020. By December 2021 I was in a permenant museum's acquisition and even headline their 2021 acquisition. That is major when it comes to collecting art. Plus I independently sold to a famous NFL athlete. He has 5 pieces of my work. He commissioned me for a piece that was the centerpiece of his "Parade of Homes".
The thing with art it's about hype, trajectory, skill and branding. Alot of artists sell via story, look or art. But the ones that break internationally usually have all 3. Hopefully with my story and my look (being disabled) and my visuals of art the use of Louisiana color and mastery of understanding color and Vodou/social climate and being unapologetically black. It should be enough. I'm also prepared to the forth coming comparisons as well.
