Saying you didn't read the contract is one thing but lets not act like a struggling artist has much of an option. I think eventually a group of " big" artists band together and get the courts involved. Unless you're an "internet sensation" you're completely fukked. There should definitely be a universally accepted beginners contract of some sort. At this point a contract is damn near a payday loan.

In a way, there already is, which is why every artist is always in the same predicament. Unfortunately, the standard is "Artist gets fukked. But they'll always accept it." He'll, people are still hopping on American Idol, to sign to what. Universal, and their track record is less than 1% success rate.
