Unless I'm mistaken, this works for both parties. Melo gets his money and there's no way the Knicks don't get a ton of assets back from a team, as opposed to if he just left in free agency to a team able to absorb a max contract. That said, that "report" reeks of bullshyt and a lot of these "reputable" journalists have been making themselves look bad this offseason. Plus Melo's reputation would be beyond repair if he pulled that.
