Melo has a clearly established pattern of this sort of behavior. This is the same man who opted for the extra guaranteed year through 2011 in his second contract instead of becoming an UFA in same summer of 2010 as all the people from the same draft like Bron and co. Only he still subsequently forced a trade to NY during that season in order to guarantee a 3-year max extension before the latest CBA kicked in (which would have seen him take a significant pay cut) .
