Hatchback experts wanted.......So I need some well formulated opinions on the below rides.....Basically which one would you go for & why? :patrice:

VW Scirocco R edition

Reason for thread - I fancy downsizing to a hatchback in 2014..... Been rocking a saloon far too long (currently drivea 320D Sport)...Looking at my options with an economical stance in mind...... the insurance rates have just hit an all time high (+ the ridiculous fuel price hikes here) & frankly someone made me an offer (part exchange) I could'nt refuse....but all this is set to take shape in the new yea (Jan/Feb) i.e purchase of a brand new hatchback.

So yeh which one would you sink your hard earned cash in out of those 3... (bare in mind I'm not going to be going for a basic one e.g if Scirroco I'm going for the GTD R line edition or if Beema the M sport aspect of it etc)

I don't really like hatchbacks but the VW is the best-looking of the three. I'd go with that one.

Definitely wouldn't contest that given the stockphotos provided .... Looking at a diesel option as well & apparently their quite economical especially the blue motion version!

Just reading up on the A class review and apparently they dont drive well i.e suspension is overly stiff.. but for some reason its the current hot hatch here ( seeing alot of them on road) at the moment!

Mercedes-Benz A class and VW Scirocco are not being exported to the US. Where are you?
If you are in Europe, it would be worth checking out the Audi A1 or A3.

I'm not an Audi fan or should I say not a fan of their hatches...but yea I do like German cars....hence the 3 choices given.... ...& yes correct I'm not in America... in the UK to be exact!

I'd get a VW Polo GTI. But, it looks like you want something more expensive.

Not a bad choice but I find Polos too compact...the GTI version does look sick though! but yeh again I want a 2 litre ...you know what might just settle for the 2.0 GTD R line version in the Rocco!

The Scirocco is really expensive and really isn't in the same league as the other two cars. But that would be my choice of the listed.
I've driven the TDI A3 fully spec'd and it's a really all around nice and refined car. I would kill for the opportunity to own an S3.

I've driven a Polo, R32, and own a GTI right now. I like VAG cars they're practical and easy on the wallet.

I've driven the 128 and 135, they're nice cars but they feel cheap. I'd also worry about the engine in the 135.

The 320d is a cool little car, I wish they had them in the states.

Yeh I'd love to able to afford an S3 or better yet the meaner brother RS3 :ahh:..but that is financial suicide on all accounts for me plus the insurance would rape me silly!!!
Damn you've drove quite a vast array of nippy hatchback cars... appreciate the input.... The Rocco's gonna have to be firm favourite...I've just dropped an email to VW asking on their customisation policies...ideally I'd like it with 18 inch alloys & a black panaramic roof with the colour being Electric Blue.....:lupe:...see what they say I guess!

I can see why VW isn't going to export the Scirocco, it costs too much for the American market. The Scirocco GTS is like $39,000 USD. Americans would rather buy a BMW, Audi or Mercedes-Benz for that much.
