It makes sense

Soccers the biggest sport in the world

he’s arguably the GOAT and him and Ronaldo probably have the highest shirt sales of all time

He’s worth every penny too :yeshrug:

Barca just fukked up and mismanaged their funds :mjlol: not Messi fault
Not with them losing like they have plus no gate revenue from their empty stadium due to Covid. I'm hearing some of these clubs, not owned by billionaires, are having to take out massive loans during this pandemic

They should introduce a salary cap like they do in the NBA (I think). The bubble is about to burst in soccer.

A salary cap wouldn't make as much of a difference because the big money circulates between the teams in transfer fees. Even if you place a cap over how much money someone like Ronaldo or Messi earns it still doesn't change the fact that you'd have to pay 9 figures to his club and a bunch of agents and intermediaries before you can even sign (and pay) him. Players would just end up demanding percentages of their transfer fees to make up for the lost money and that would drive up the transfer fees. Teams would just ask for £60m for a £40m player.

If COVID doesn't drastically change the market then nothing will.

You think so?
In the duration of his contract, he has probably generated Barcelona over a billion euros. He is one of the most recognizable people on Earth.

Barcelona should have sold him three years ago tho.
Exactly only thing holding him back is that he looks like a dwarf/hobbit and not a Matinee Idol.
That adds to his recognition, but he would probably be the face of Dior or something similar if he was traditionally attractive.
