Excuse my total ignorance, but soccer pulling in that much revenue? All those leagues and shyt??? They do revenue sharing?
tbf i don't think the rest of the world really cares about what America thinks about football (soccer). It's probably the most accessible democratic sport to play, you dont need a lot of equipment, which is one of the reasons it's so popular globally

Yes
the premier league is the most watched league in the world.
Hell i think christiano ronaldo has the most instagram followers in the world
True. The more you have to pay to play the more you prevent young talent from being discovered. Shout out to your avi, the great Pape Diouf, I had the chance to spend many hours talking football with him. May he rest in peace. But yet somehow America monetized it which phucked them over when it came to developing their own players at youth level

He was getting 200m+ per year, often the Europeans report post-tax salaries. That 41/year is also net so it’s more like 85-90m/year or more. That’s the problem when different nations media mix the salaries reports from different countries and sports. Gross salary is what’s important for the club and net salary for the player. Idk what’s most important for the fansThat’s it? They was saying he was going get 100 a year

Messi has compiled more than $1.2 billion in career earnings before taxes and agent fees, according to Forbes estimates, having earned $875 million on the pitch and $375 million in endorsements. He was the highest-paid soccer player in the world this year at $130 million (made up of $97 million in salary and $33 million in endorsements from partners Adidas, Anheuser-Busch InBev and Gatorade, among others). And that figure could have been even higher: Forbes estimates that Messi lost between $25 million and $75 million of salary and bonuses to pandemic-related pay cuts over the last two seasons.
Details of Messi’s 555 million euro ($671 million) contract over four seasons were released by the El Mundo newspaper on Sunday, upsetting the club and instigating the promise of lawsuits.
The contract made headlines everywhere, and Spanish league president Javier Tebas took the opportunity on Monday to underline the high amount of taxes owed by Messi. He noted that the Argentina great has to pay about 270 million euros ($326 million) in taxes for his contract, nearly half of its value
- Just under $674 million over four years (roughly $168.5M per season)
- Renewal fee estimated at roughly $140M
- Roughly $94.6M loyalty bonus
