TO never had a dominant run gm. Could u imagine the coverage he woulda got. And Troy Aikman is considered to be 1 of the most accurate passers in league history.
Really, Aikman good like that? I always had him below everyone else the 90's when I was a kid.

T.O. Played about as well or better in the Super Bowl as Michael Irvin did in his 3 appearances. The difference simply comes down to your team. In that same vain is it Larry Fitzgerald's fault he has no rings? Mind you he probably has the greatest playoff performance in NFL history.
Well I think Fitz is a bit different, he just got unlucky. I still think T.O kind of wrecked san francisco,

:to: caught maybe 300 more passes and scored maybe 90 more touchdowns. I'm a big :ooh: fan but let's be real
Fair enough, but look at it this way, the Ravens (your team) was elite back then and could have had T.O at least twice, yet Brian Billick and Newsome didn't want him. Say everything.
Irvin had better hands, which made him more reliable, especially in big games. TO was crazy explosive, but prone to drops. TO had some good performances in big games though. He redeemed himself in the Packers playoff game after dropping balls all day. He had that incredible performance in a Super Bowl Loss. Irvin was on better overall teams. The Niners teams he was on were flawed, even though they were making the playoffs. That Eagles team was pretty solid, but those Dallas teams in the 90's were all time, and not solely because of Irvin. If I were starting a team from scratch, I'd choose TO, if i needed one receiver to try and put my team over the top, i'd probably choose Irvin.

I agree.. because Garcia couldn't push that ball downfield at all. TO made most of his plays after the catch
Interesting. Do you think if Young had stayed around 49ers would have been better?
Skip telling duck tales about TO backin down from Witten.:comeon: Shook of Witten but threw hands at a much biggerHugh Douglas. Ok skippy
Making it seem like T.O was having nightmares about Witten.
Jerry Rice raised a lotta hell in San Fran.... media was different back in the day
True especially at the end when DeBartolo wanted him to retire and he wouldn't.

Here are the clips if anyone is interested.

There were more talented qbs like Elway, Marino and Moon, but Aikaman's accuracy is legendary. He was the 1st pick for a reason. He was surrounded by hofers on both sides of the ball. The other qbs, especially Marino was hampered by a horrible organization.

The defense continued to decline, so they probably would not have been a real contender. But they would have been better with a healthy Young at QB. Garcia was a tough QB, but arm strength wasn't a quality he possessed. Young didn't have incredible arm strength either, but his deep ball was much cleaner. Overall, the defense wouldn't have allowed them to get to the Super Bowl.

I think Marino should have forced a trade to the Bucs or something, would have got a ring.

People forget the defense was a big reason why they were good for so long...and then the 49ers had crappy drafts forever.

Overall TO no contest but.....if there was a 4th and 7 with the season on tha line I'd throw to Irvin every time. Irvin had way better hands and was way more dependable. TO was way more explosive esp after tha catch

Irvin's numbers are skewed by playing in a run game first era with a RB who got tons of carries and Aikman was just decent....pretty accurate but his arm strength was meh

Moss is absolutely #2 over TO for me, but other than that, TO>everybody.

Agreed with the others when referring to Irv. Emmett is the only reason Mike isn't top 5 in stats.
That and Aikman was super overrated IMO. Only threw 15+ TDs in only 6 of his 15 seasons
