I'm not understanding what you're arguing here. Out of the three Black people they got commentary from or interviewed, the only negative was on regard to his appearance. One Black male praised the music. Another Black female shrugged and smiled about his change in appearance, but while holding a copy of the album, which she'd purchased. So I'm still not seeing how ALL of US were collectively clowning MJ in the 80's especially if this less than 3:00 news clip featuring three of us is supposed to somehow prove we were.

Going back to my post about people being in Dre's ears in 1990 because of how young in the game he was and possibly being persuaded by others to pass, here's what Tony A (former DJ to Hi-C and someone who workd with Dre early in his career) had to say about why he didn't work with MJ during the Dangerous sessions that confirms what I said earlier about a possible reason it never happened in 1990:

"Dre loved east coast music," continues Da Wizard. "A lot of their beats were sampled from east coast artists. I'll take it further, east coast artists love Dre's production. I was in the studio when EPMD went there, and Chuck D went there. They wanted Dre to produce some of their songs. The east coast was definitely influenced by Dre. Madonna, Michael Jackson, wanted Dre to produce tracks for them. Let me tell you why he didn't. Not only because he was signed exclusive to Eazy, but he had so many projects, he couldn't. He didn't have the time. It was only one goose to lay the golden eggs."

All this back and forth about whether people were feelin' MJ strays from the point: even if Dre did want to work with MJ, his management team had to sign off on it and if they weren't making money off of Dre, then it wasn't worth their time.

I found the whole video that dude posted about BAD-era Michael Jackson. Only negative backlash he was getting from our community during that period was in regard to his appearance. Nelson George was on point saying his Michael's change in appearance would affect the perception of him in the long run, but this is nowhere near what it was made out to be in this thread.

What I will say is that watching the video below is that white folk had turned on Michael at this point. You could hear it in the tone. They were clearly uncomfortable at the fact that he'd bought the Beatles' catalog, was dressing in military attire, and that his "Bad" video was based on the shooting of a Black teen by the police. So there definitely was an agenda that was full force designed to discredit Michael in the mainstream in the '80's. It wasn't from us, the discrediting of Mike was spearheaded by white folk:

There's a reason why Ted Riley isn't as popular or a household name like Dr Dre is. Dre would've def benefitted from working with Michael, had a few classics and would have those joints rejuvenate MJ to new heights more than what Ted Riley did for him. You gotta remember he was fresh off not working with Quincy and was entering a new decade with a new sound that at first people weren't welcoming. coming from Michael. Dre would've given him something that would still be playing in Clubs today.
