One difference here is that someone had to be interested in hearing MJ music to end up streaming on of his tracks. Legit interest, as in they were playing it because they enjoy the music.

Much different from “oh Drake dropped a new album let me just give it a courtesy play for curiosity sake”.

True, but even then streaming makes it much easier for a lot of the younger generation to connect and find those legacy artist that they might not have otherwise. It's why streaming isn't necessarily a bad thing even if artist have complaints about it.
