Real talk MJ blessed the hell out of this record. Butterflies is one of my favorite MJ songs period. His vocals and Marsha Ambrosia's were phenomenal
What didn't help was that he went against Mottola and spoke out on the racism of the record companies right after the album dropped. They straight killed the albums momentum out of spite. MJ deserved better but the industry never really forgave him for wiping his ass with the Beatles catalog and telling Paul Mcartney to fukk off (still probably the GOAT industry power move by a Black artist)
Also it didn't help that Tommy was taking the BEEF personaly in regards to the INVINCIBLE LP
MJ and Rodney Jenkins had a track called THREATNED which TOMMY MOTOLLA refused to put on the ALBUM cause A&Rs said that MIKE was DISSING tommy cause his lady Thalia was PILLOW TALKING TO MIKE
Thalia admitted to inviting Mike to thier home cause she was a fan and wanted to squash issues with Mike and her fiance Tommy
Tommy left the house with Mike and her alone where Thalia where they talked
she invited Mike to her wedding which he declined
but settled the feud for a brief moment to attend the reception
Thalia got Tommy to apologize and the track THREATNED was finally added to the LP it's the last track

yeah Mike didn't have any creative control over that album......
1. the Japs at SONY wasn't concerned with mechanical royalties off of Albums ..so they SLASHED BUDGETS they wanted Sony Atv to smash it's competitor Warner Chapell in the catalog publishing market cause that's where the real money was at.
That's why they had bought EMI publishing...also the PlayStation money made them Japs realize Music wasn't as important. ..so Tommy to his credit had to rollback financing for this album...Mike was,already getting a 30 million dollar advance for this album...so Tommy tried to save money ... and save his JOB
the Japs would eventually FIRE tommy mottola in 2003 buy out his contract after a horrible quarter revenue sales and the failure to obtain the other 50% of the SONY catalog from Micheal ...2. Tommy saved money by getting his mafia goon AL Melnick to befriend Mike via Brett Ratner who was already being "financed" by AL for the RUSH HOUR MOVIE...Brett invited Mike to a party with Chris Tucker and everybody else Al was eating off of ...next thing you know Al gets Chris Tucker in the video for ROCK MY WORLD and it gets directed by Brett Ratner whom Al speaks of fondly:

Anybody who wants to know why Michael was and still remains the undisputed GOAT black musician/businessman needs to read Michael Jackson: The Magic And The Madness. I'm telling yall Michael was bossing on Cacs since before Thriller. He had legitimate personal/identity issues but that soft spoken sissy demeanor was also a front that he used as a weapon for people to underestimate him. There will probably NEVER be another black entertainer that amassed the power that Michael held from 83-1990. That nikka had Princess Diana and Prince Charles EATING out of the palm of his hand. The best part of that album is the very middle, tracks 4-8. They line up with any classics from his catalog. That being said, Mike was infatuated with Rodney Jerkins who is a talentless hack, and he let him fukk up the album. Some of those tracks just stink, but MJ did the best he could with them. Like others have said, that album was doomed no matter if Jesus himself produced it. Them jews was eyeing that Beatles money and how to cheat MJ out of his share. They knew that by not marketing the joint and how MJ spent his money that he would be destitute, when that aint work, they had to kill him. He been stylin on cacs for decades at that point. They mad that the uneducated child-like black man from Gary Indiana was outsmarting them using they own rules.....
