If 96-98 MJ played today he’s sitting games for rest. I don’t blame any player for sitting 5-10 games a year, especially if your team is head and shoulders above the conference.

I’d disagree. There’s not even a little bit of evidence saying MJ would voluntarily sit out 10 games in a season. He’s never missed that many games in a season, except for major injury which was only twice. MJ wasn’t cut from that cloth ever. I don’t think people truly get how borderline psychotic MJ is/was. Makes him an a$$hole but it also made him the consensus goat in basketball.

Jordan: When we were beating Philly in the play-offs last year and Detroit was going against Boston, everyone was saying, “I hope Boston wins.” I said, No way. If we’re going to go, we have to go the hardest route, or else as a team, we’re going to get criticized for it. First of all, Scottie Pippen would never redeem himself from having those three headaches, or whatever he had, in the final 1990 conference championship game against the Pistons. As a team we would never live it down because we always faltered under Detroit’s pressure. No one really gained respect from Detroit players.

Playboy: It would have reflected badly on you, too.
Jordan: All of that would have been right on my shoulders. Yeah, you won a championship, people would have said, but you didn’t go through Detroit to do it. I didn’t want that crap to happen. I wanted to go the hardest route. :wow:

Goat talk. That's why fans put the older generation on a pedestal.

That’s why lebron wanted to stay in the East most of his career :wow:

People who insist that athletes nowadays are better/more advanced physically nowadays, have to also fess up and admit people back in the days were way more emotionally mature/had more character than nowadays on the whole. And that's despite Mike having clear psycho tendencies. People/players nowadays are spoiled kids in comparison, and that's putting it very mildly. :manny:
One of my oldheads was arguing with one of my homies and said they had more killer Instinct back in the day..he was drunk but...

you don't get it if you think he's sitting
If you're 34-36 years old, it makes no sense to strain to 82 games in the modern NBA especially on teams as good as those Bulls teams.

Rest management is cultural as much as it is health conscious these days.

It's not something you would do in the late 90's. Or even the late 2000's. Today he'd take a few games off if he had nagging injuries, I have no doubt.

He went three straight years playing all 82 games in his early to mid 30s.

Yeah, I understand that. I know plenty about MJ's career. But like I said, there was an expectation that you would play as many games as possible at the time. It was part of the NBA's culture during that period and really up until the past 5 years or so.

Now, I wouldn't expect him to play through nagging injuries he might've picked up especially if they happened later in the season. Sitting 5-7 games wouldn't be out of the question IMO.

YOU DONT KNOW
WHAT YOURE TALKING ABOUT.

ORLANDO WON 60 GMS
AND SEATTLE WON 64 GMS IN 96

HEAT WON 61 GMS
AND UTAH WON 64 GMS IN 97

PACERS WON 58 GMS
WHILE THE LAKERS/SONICS WON 61
AND THE JAZZ WON 62 GMS.

IF THAT SAME SCENARIO TAKES
PLACE IN 2022 MJ ISNT TAKING
ANY GAMES OFF.
