I think more than anything this shows that yiu have to be willing to take risks when franchise building with young players.You can't be worried so much about things going left becuse the upside and growth opportunity is so valuable.
In Denver's case it was more so luck as they almost ended up trading the pick to cut salary but other teams had no interest in doing so.

The interesting thing about it now is that they’d probably take that exact same gamble again with how set they are at the 5 and can afford to wait.

Not many contending teams are in that type of situation that they can afford to wait on a player to come along.

Still a horrendous contract. Basically another Tobias Harris. If Denver could move him without attaching multiple firsts for an upgrade, they would.

Tobias Harris and his contract aren’t the reasons why the Sixers ain’t been to the Finals though. Embiid, Ben Simmons, James Harden, Doc Rivers and their shortcomings in the playoffs.
