Michelle Beadle is a polarizing figure. The media loves those type of lightning rod personalities. Frankly, I would never hire people like that for any job whatsoever in my company. And ironically and not by mere coincidence, these inflammatory type of people tend to get their own shows on television or are the main personality on air and are surrounded by side commentators.
If I remember correctly, Oscar Robertson won the NBA MVP in 1964. Besides the joy of just winning an MVP and winning in the era of Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain when competition was tough, Oscar said, "It also meant a lot to me because the players voted on the award and to be seen that way by my peers meant a lot to me." Again, correct me if I'm wrong but I believe Oscar said that and it totally trashes the media's current campaign that "Even if players vote for awards, they won't care. They'll only care if they get awards we vote for." Pure crap. If I'm remembering right about Oscar, that's one of the greatest players ever to play the game who deeply values being seen as an MVP by his peers.
EDIT
I remembered correctly. During Oscar Robertson's interview with Chris Webber, starting at 22:16 and ending around 23:36 confirms this. Great interview. Here is the video below:
