It would be way smarter to drop the prices if anything
Why would it be? They clearly intend to have their hardware be a niche product. Their games are pretty much everywhere so taking a loss on hardware is pointless. They don’t need you to buy their hardware to be their customer.

I can see a few more retailers like Costco not even bothering anymore.

It's no longer a mass market product. Will probably just be sold direct to consumers online or specific order on a website like Best Buy.

They're literally putting out an Xbox system that can't even directly play Xbox games with the Xbox Ally. Hardware just isn't a priority anymore. Seems likely the next system will be a PC like the Ally is.
