I don't disagree that it's overpriced for people's expectations, and that's why there have been plenty of promotions since release. Amazon was giving out gift cards, best buy had some deals. And Walmart has been giving out that coupon for a while now. I just disagree with the whole "selling poorly" and "desperate" angle. They shipped a lot of consoles, probably more than they planed since they didnt ship in so many countries
Well yeah but last month in the US the supply constrained PS4 about doubled the readily available Xbox One's sales. There's something still going on here whether or not you'd care to admit it.

I don't claim to know the full story but something is up with that.

No but you missed the part where someone saying 2:1 on twitter means absolutely nothing without real numbers to back it up

You're right, breh.

With this point, you have convinced me. The X1 is the superior system.

Congrats, Meach. You just won the console war!! :krs: Now you can go outside!!! :gladbron:

:tu:

Good work, man.

Gang violence...
drop kinnect. pack the media remote with each system and sell for $400. that is really the only way to reduce the sales deficit

yes it will cause some compatibility problems with currently released software, but it's worth it

Microsoft's Xbox One Is Far Weaker Than Sony's PlayStation 4, According to This Legendary Game Creator

http://www.fool.com/investing/gener...-xbox-one-is-far-weaker-than-sonys-plays.aspx

Microsoft's (NASDAQ: MSFT ) Xbox One had a strong debut, selling millions in its first month on the market. But with the holiday rush over, sales have slowed to a crawl: Last month, rival Sony's (NYSE: SNE ) PlayStation 4 outsold Microsoft's console by 2-to-1 in the U.S., and retailers have begun to offer incentives on the Xbox One to move inventory.

While the console race is still in its early stages, Microsoft appears to have its hands full. It's become clear that Sony's machine is more powerful, capable of offering much better-looking games.

Metal Gear Solid creator praises Sony's machine
Hideo Kojima, the creator of the legendary Metal Gear Solid franchise, has been a vocal supporter of Sony's PlayStation 4. Most recently, in an interview with Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu (via DualShockers), Kojima heaped lavish praise on Sony's latest console:

I think, between the home consoles available ... [Sony's] PS4 is the best. It's also excellent for graphics, being able to render 1080p at 60fps with room to spare. Since it does it a little better than other hardware, the image quality of the PS4 is the most beautiful.

Kojima's comments are particularly notable given that his upcoming work, Metal Gear Solid V, will appear on both Sony and Microsoft's consoles. In other words, Kojima is familiar with both machines, and has no reason to be biased.

Of course, Kojima's comments should come as no surprise to anyone who has been following the industry. Over the past few months, a number of third-party games have been found to perform better on Sony's PlayStation 4, able to output graphics at full 1080p HD, rather than the 720p that some of Microsoft's Xbox One titles have been limited to.

More power for less money
Arguably, this gap in graphical power is not necessarily a deal-breaker. In fact, less powerful video game consoles have almost always outsold their more powerful competitors: The Wii outsold both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 despite lacking HD visuals, while Sony's PlayStation 2 outsold both the original Xbox and the GameCube.

But the popularity of these less-powerful machines was largely driven by the price: With lesser technology, weaker consoles have almost always been offered up at cheaper prices, making them easier for consumers to afford.

Not this time. Although the Xbox One isn't as powerful as Sony's PlayStation 4, it's more expensive -- a full $100 (or 25%) more.

Microsoft's advantageThe extra cost is likely due to the inclusion of Kinect 2.0, the motion and voice-controlled sensor sold with every Xbox One. Although the Kinect gives the Xbox One smart TV capabilities Sony's PlayStation 4 could never hope to match, for dedicated video gamers, the Kinect is largely superfluous.

It's hardly surprising that the PlayStation 4 has outsold the Xbox One so far. Dedicated gamers are the sort of consumers most likely to purchase a console following its release: If all you want to do is game, Sony's machine offers better-looking games at a lesser price point -- the choice is obvious.

In the long run, Microsoft may be able to close the gap by offering better exclusives, bolstering its TV capabilities to attract non-gamers, or aggressively cutting the price of its console. For now, Sony is clearly offering gamers the better deal.

There are few things that Bill Gates fears. Cloud computing is one of them. It’s a radical shift in technology that has early investors getting filthy rich, and we want you to join them. That’s why we are highlighting three companies that could make investors like you rich. You've likely only heard of one of them, so be sure to click here to watch this shocking video presentation!

PS4 Will Pull Further Ahead Of Xbox One With Japanese Launch

http://www.forbes.com/sites/davidth...rther-ahead-of-xbox-one-with-japanese-launch/

As of this writing it is 2:00 am in Japan and Sony's PS4 has been out for approximately two hours. As with any console launch, excitement has been building for weeks. Eager fans lined up hours in advance to get their hands on the shiny new box. This may be Sony’s home market, but fans here have had to wait as Sony readied more software suited to the Japanese audience. Now that it’s finally launching, Sony is going to see a nice little sales bump.

The PS4 has already had an incredibly strong launch, outpacing not only its closest rival, the Xbox One, but every other generation of Playstation before it. Sony sold 4.2 million units in 2013, as compared to 3 million for Xbox One — and that’s with a significant supply constriction. The PS4 also “nearly doubled” Xbox One sales in the US for January. That’s especially important, because the Xbox 360 outsold the PS3 in the US and Western Europe throughout the last generation. So the PS4 has been winning a war fought mostly in enemy territory, and today it regains some homefield advantage.

The Xbox brand has struggled in Japan since day one, and it doesn’t appear that Xbox One will do much to reverse that trend — as the Escapist points out, even the very basic idea of “the living room,” central to Xbox One’s design philosophy, doesn’t really hold up in Japan. Its biggest games are all geared towards the Western market, and Microsoft MSFT +0.64% seems to have wisely decided to largely cede the island to its rival.

It’s still early in the console war, but Sony’s current lead becomes even more impressive when you consider how it has been hamstrung — it had not yet launched in its home market, and it suffered considerable supply constriction everywhere else. Furthermore, there aren’t any games driving this adoption. The PS4 launched with two boxed exclusives and a limited lineup of smaller games, of which only the bite-sized arcade shooter Resogun really impressed critics. What we’re experiencing is pure hardware excitement. Sony will need to release some games to keep that momentum going, but the fact that it has been able to do so without a particularly impressive software library speaks volumes.

We’ll wait on numbers out of Japan as the day goes on — when companies have numbers they like to share, they’ve become fond of 24-hour launch stats, so that will probably be our first indication of how this machine is doing.

How the fukk could they not pull further ahead releasing in a region that Xbox is not in?

Great article breh. Really gives insight on the ins and outs of the console business:heh:

They did forget to add that Xbox has yet to release in most of the world, but who needs the full story when reading these articles.

"can tell you between the 2 companies Sony is smiling right now while microsoft is trying to quickly trying to make changes.:banderas:"

And that's how I can tell you know nothing about what your talking about. Microsoft as a company is much healthier then Sony. They have a lot more money and flexibly when it comes to the video games business. Being behind early has much less effect on their business then it would with Sony.

But I'll keep letting your superior business mind tell the story :snoop:
