I've seen great results with either or. You get the best results when you reference other images or styles to dial in what you really want. These tools work better with a starting point from my experience.

Damn. Always wanted to fund an animation studio. But I guess the concept goes in the dumpster now with ai.

I'd imagine every studio except the big ones will start firing animators and their sound crew. domestic studios like the ones working on Netflix and Amazon series might be covered by the SAG AFTRA contracts, but it's game over for the Japanese ones which were already outsourcing to Vietnam and Korea.

And on the small side I could totally see the whole field being saturated with two man studios with trashy animations. And this is just mainstream anime, imagine what the rule34 crew will do to adult animation.

It's more doable now because all of the models have made major improvements with character consistency since they first launched.

That would be the starting point, generating characters that you like the look of and then putting the story together. I would call the actual work of finding an aesthetic/style that you like and then making the characters tedious. But then coming up with the environments for everything would also be time consuming.

These tools aren't perfect, I'd expect to do a ton of prompting and trial and error to produce a manga or graphic novel with legit character and environment consistency. Not impossible, with all that's available to learn and with how powerful these things are
