Yea i think youre right. Thats how i looked at it too.

A lot of people didn't like the pace but I thought it was nessary. Its a slow burn but it picked up when it needed to. I like the fact that we learned what was going on at the same time as the characters. There was no predicting what was next.

I had to see Spiderman right after to clear my head

I wouldn't even call this a horror really because they didn't even show anyone getting murked like that, and they could have easily added an extra 10-15 min to show each person get killed lol. This flick was just visual fukkery to tie in a message about Family and building genuine bonds lol.

I won’t lie and say that I didn’t feel the time but I only felt it bc it’s billed to be a horror movie and it’s not. Think of it as a personification of experience, you won’t be disappointed & the ending will be like 10x better.
I feel you on that. Honestly I laughed more than I was scared. I had no idea what it was about before I watched it. I have that amc movie pass so I didn't pay anything to see it. Glad I saw it tho. Almost went to Annabelle instead

The kills in it were weird too. Definitely not your typical horror/thriller flick. It's good to get some new life to horror. For a while everything was remakes or predictable. I wouldn't recommend this to everybody but if you're really into movies or looking for something different this is it. I can't remember the last time i saw a movie and felt anything after. Definitely not going to Sweden anytime soon

have you ever seen Hereditary? This dudes movies seem to not be traditional "something bad is coming after you horror" but more so dark messed up events happening and him trying to give you disturbing images of those things lol.

Nah I haven't seen it but I will tonight if I can find it online. I keep hearing people talk about it. I don't like reading reviews until after the movie bc I like to go into it knowing as little as possible so i kinda forgot about it

In new Orleans there's a saying
if your girl cooks spaghetti and red sauce and it's her time of the month don't eat it
. Ion know if that's every where but I only heard it at home

This was aight. They paced it out really good. For a movie with so much talking and subtle shyt, it kept my interest. Great cinematography. The reason i say it's aight is because it's basically just like alot of cult movies we've seen before just a new setting. But it was enjoyable.

My thoughts after 24 hours:

Aster is a force to be reckoned with not just in the Horror genre, but in visual cinematography across the entire spectrum of modern day film.

This was visually one of the most stunning movies I've ever seen.

With that said, there are major pacing issues that in comparison to Hereditary draw this movie out 20-30 minutes longer than I think everyone in the theater would've preferred.

As someone thats done his fair share of mushrooms, this trip could've been condensed and more potent in its delivery of the final message.

Speaking of the final message, I don't know how the trauma that Sidney Pugh's character goes through in the beginning with her sister has anything to do with the rest of the movie once they arrive at the camp. It seemed like a plot device to lead the viewer to the water of her grief.

The gut punch though... Audition aside, this is probably the most brutal and disturbing film I've ever experienced and it really only deals with one insanely gory scene. The rest is the slow descent into the rationalization of a religion no longer fit for modern day scrutiny that in our eyes encompass abominable convictions and morale.

While this didn't floor me like Hereditary, I enjoyed it despite the pacing issues. Aster has earned my money with all of his projects until he starts pulling a Shyamalan

PS. I work at Audi right across the street from stunning rolling 50-acre farmland. I got to work this morning and looked out from my desk at that shyt like :merchant:

The best thing this movies does is drags the worst kind of horror out into beautifully sun-drenched landscape.

Basically took the backdrop of The Sound of Music and turned it into a murder scene :unimpressed:
i agree with alot of what you said. I disagree about the pacing. The pacing of it actually kept me engaged. I agree about the cinematography being on point. They did a great job of not being try-hards about their shots like some movies.

edit: also, about the girl's grief being a plot device, it wasn't about making us feel for her, it was all to set up how much of a scumbag the boyfriend was. Dude's been dating her 4 years, her family all died, and he was still setting up a trip to Sweden without her. This was all to set him up as a complete a$$hole as we saw later in the movie. Like at first you do kind of side with dude about her having drama and being sucked into it, then towards the end the audience has no sympathy for him when you look at him overall.
