no Atlanta artist should be signing deals...if you can get a wave down there, the artist/producers that are already poppin will fukk with you and hop on a track or ask for a feature...you can get you name out off that...throw music on iTunes cause if people want it for free, they gonna get it anyway...build relationships in the city and the nation will catch on...
I hope you understand that most of them are artists and not businessmen.
They need people to take care of samples, paying producers, engineers, studios, tours, features and on. Usually you can get a manager to do all that, but if you don't have any bread you need a deal cause the banks won't front you.

managers is the real cost, 15-20% 360.
Labels make a case for their price, they charge you an interest rate for the money they put up. The smaller the risk the less they charge. Managers however, few of them are worth the percentage they charge. They shouldn't sign deal too quick though or you should do like Macklemore or someone and sign deals for every album/single etc. But you need some crazy success for that.

that's why i said build relationships in the city...if you got a wave going on, you can attract a knowledgeable manager thats already been in the industry...there's plenty of them in the city...and managers are wayyyyy more worth their percentage charges than labels...they do everything from booking sessions to shows to features ect...labels put up a lot of money, take a HUGE percentage just for the platform, still make artist pay out their earnings to recoup, 360 so they get a piece of everything that your name is on, owns your masters and publishing...like Ross just told y'all, he never met an artist that fully recoup...the money that a label will put up to get you on the radio isn't even part of your advance...that will have to be paid back...like i said, better to create a wave and go independent and keep your name bubbling then to be in huge debt...

My Pops Forever RIP
Didn't even see this post, that's my thoughts exactly. :salute:

Stop chasing the big numbers and focus on a number u know you can get and once you get that number move on to the next one. That's what Suave House,No limit did. I swear to GOD seeing people like 300 or other labels makes me want to start a label as a social experiment and get it funded by kickstarter to see if I can get better numbers than some of these new labels. :lupe:
Think about what you said and try telling that to an artist, let alone a new artist with actual dreams. It's like telling a basketball player "I don't know why you're trying to win a spot on a NBA team. Get this Euroleague paper." It's hard to tell acts, especially acts who have had a taste of the success they ultimately crave that it's the kind of success that isn't meant for them.

Even Tech N9ne at Migos' age and stage in their careers was on a major trying to make it.

why would anybody in 2015...tech9 and his manager gave these dumb nikkas the blueprint
If I was an artist with buzz and not business savvy, I would seek Tech out myself and put what I have on the table and do a deal with him. Him and his team know what they're doing and the artist would see more of their bread or maybe Tech should be doing this himself.

Thats literally the same as signing to a label. Your just signing to a small label.

This whole go independent thing, is while factual not for everyone. Its for hard working business people. If an artist is not a hard working business person going independent is not going to help them in anyway. Its like giving the advise 'be smart', yeah thats a true strategy but its not actionable for people who are not already smart.

Sounds like Culture was their last project under 300. They've joined the rest of the Quality Control roster over at Motown/Capitol.
