For those of y'all Miguel fans, does Miguel have great songs were he's singing about something else other than chicks?

e.g. Frank Ocean's "Strawberry Swing" (nostalgia, cherishing fleeting moments) and "We All Try" (faith, belief)

I like Miguel's music more than Frank's. Miguel is great live, I can't say the same for Frank (that Grammy performance was rough). I feel people overrate Frank's songwriting because it's vague and weird. Miguel just tells it like it is (ie. p*ssy Is Mine). It is a very apples and oranges debate.

Why can't cats just appreciate The Weekend/Miguel/Frank Ocean instead of pitting them against each other?

All of this. It feels so forced at times. Like y'all just want to debate instead of appreciate.

There's a reason why Kanye, Jay, Andre 3000 and all the greats are so keen to work with such a rare talent :ahh:

You mean jumping to attach themselves to the hot current artists?

What kind of qualification is this?

It's a big deal, for me at least. It gets boring if you sing about the same narrow topic: "women, love" on every song. I've always admired singers that do that PLUS a variety of other topics.

Frank Ocean was a major breath of fresh air because he made songs about more topics than your average RnB singer. Even his ideas and metaphors e.g. novacane were different and imaginative.

Those two tracks I mentioned, "Strawberry Swing" and "We All Try" are some of the best RnB I've heard in probably a decade. I can't remember the last time someone in that genre sang about something different, and did it well.

And yes he does

Frank Ocean sounds better, has less commercially successful hits and still moves more units :lolbron:
That's cuz he's a fakkit.

Caitlin Jenner mire relevant as a tranny than he was being an Olympic gold medalist

Those sales came from fakkit privilege.

As far as dis debate is concerned
Frank's lyrix writing is better but Miguel makes better music

Frank makes hipster r&b music that loses its flavor once u decipher the music alrdy.

Miguel's music has depth lyrically also but his voice and and style makes for better r&b

Tbh tho Miguel is also a bit overrated too cuz even his music ain't that great

Tbh none of these nikkaz seeing r Kelly the gawd when it comes to writing good R&B music

I'd take PND over him anyday of the week :yeshrug:

:camby: FOH

Trying to force PND up there with the young goats :heh:

For the moment its Miguel > Abel > Frank in terms of quality of recent releases.

Popularity it's Abel > Frank > Miguel

Resume wise it's really close. Can't even choose.

Nostalgia/Ultra, Kaleidoscope Dream, Channel Orange, HOB/EOS/THURS, WildHeart are all amazing projects.
