nikka what? I want them to sound that way?
How about I can easily recognize a sound I grew up listening to :rudy:
Like I said you clearly don't know what you talking about.
My nikka I know exactly what I'm talking bout. I know Houston beats when I hear them and I know Memphis beats when I hear them and I know I hear Rocky and drake rap over more Memphis sounding production than I do houston. I'm speaking on beats my dawg nothing else. Like cuz say the whole game is rapping over as style of beats that crafted and perfected in Memphis. Problem is most of these nikkas Prolly don't know it

One could argue we've already seen this happening with Eminem
I think black music will be fine. The youth has to change their approach though. More respect for the old school and older styles. And a higher concentration of actual musicians wanting to play music instruments. If we can make that "trendy" again, i think we'll be fine
The thing about today is the state of the culture is weak. There were enough heavy hitters for Em to do what he did without the game going white. If we get a modern Eminem, or, what I think will really emerge, a white Drake, the hip hop that gets pushed to the forefront is already homogenous and supresses diversity. Said rapper would of course get the white America stimulus package in sales/hits, the powers that be will see the money and try their best to clone him while black rapper are hitting holes in the wall to make a living.

But then again I've been very jaded about hip-hop as of late so this can be taken with a grain of salt.

Coli/Booth is fallin' off when we allow people to diss producers/artists while openly saying "I don't who this is". Come on. This is a Hip Hop forum and you can't at least Google an artist's work, yet proceed to :pacspit: and throw dirt on them. This isn't some rinky dink, flavor of the month producer that just got on. This is a legend and a pioneer that people are in here saying "i don't know who the guy", but continue to talk down on him. I'm not saying that his statement wasn't offensive, but when you're not even addressing what he said, but talking down on his work, you can't expect to look credible if you don't even know the work you're dissing.

This shyt already happened with Rock & Roll in the 1960's. Blacks were kicked out of their own creation. By the 1970's, Jimi Hendrix was a curious side show in Rock & Roll.

What will happen is that a "white Drake" will add absolutely no innovation to the game and will eventually finish the genre. Blacks meanwhile will say F*ck this shyt and will start their own thang..Rinse and repeat.

Dean is a great talent, its no coincidence some of the best sonic products of recent have been ones he worked on. Anybody discrediting him should just stop speaking on this particular subject.

Drake and Rocky both use Memphis style production more than Houston Style. Pretty flacko and hype are two examples

Either way neither has shyt to do with Mike Dean

Why do you guys just make shyt up on the Internet like it can't be proven wrong quickly? :snoop: They both were HEAVILY influenced by Houston and the sound from that part of the country.

ASAP Rocky's own words A Conversation with A$AP Rocky

Being from Houston, I find it interesting that your style is largely influenced by my city. How did you get introduced to that sound?
Growing up, man, all I listened to was Geto Boys, UGK, Swishahouse, Mike Jones, Paul Wall, Slim Thug, everybody.

Mike Dean has produced, mixed, or worked with in some capacity all the people named above. All of them. They are also all from Houston.

This song isn't called 'Memphis Old Head' is it?

As for Drake....aside from the fact he was found by J Prince's son and recorde, has MANY references to Houston, and I could be wrong but the song wasn't named MemphAltantavegas now was it? Why does he go on tour and tell people he reps H-Town till the day he dies lol.

@Krazy K is right, you have no idea what you are talking about.

What does any of that have to do with them nikkas using Memphis style production. I could pull up quotes of him saying the same shyt about Three 6 Mafia

shyt sound like fukkin Slob on my knob

Are you even able to point out an example of Houston production?

See @LilRicky you continue to show that you don't know what you are talking about. You don't know the music from the area very well but then tell us it doesn't sound like the music you don't even know about. Of course a song produced by Juicy J is going to sound like it's from Memphis :snoop:

But since you asked like someone wouldn't even be able to point out one example of Houston sounding production here you go...these not only sample records from the Houston, you can hear the influence in the song structure and drums. I can tell you there are more....

Drake has just as many references to Houston as he does Toronto on 'Nothing Was The Same' :pachaha: Breh is out there throwing Houston Appreciation days and you are sitting here telling us he doesn't have any influence from the area :snoop:

Breh:pachaha:I been said they had influences from both places

I'm just sayin as far as production goes I think they have more influences from Memphis. As far as name droppin, references and shyt, Houston in the lead.
Drake daddy from Memphis, nikka:dahell:

And that Bass ain't no Houston beat either:umad:that's that new era New York weirdo shyt, they just screwed up the hook like some SUC nikkas

breh, you're arguing with a cac and a moron. Even if you prove him wrong beyond a shadow of a doubt, he'll still ramble. it's happened before. Not even worth it.

With that said, you think Drake's stuff has a Memphis feel? To be honest, I never heard Drake's Memphis side till Started From the Bottom came out. And yeah, dude's dad is from Memphis. But I always thought that Memphis shyt was too hard for Drake in his early tween rap days. Drake prolly knew about that shyt but wasn't into it heavy until he started thugging on camera and acting harder. Those examples you posted (Hype and Energy) are post-Started From The Bottom. Drake's always come across as an Houston/ATL rapper than Memphis.
Just my 2c :yeshrug:I'm asking your opinion because you seem to know what you're talking about.

You're right. He started rapping on those beats later. Mostly because that sound became mainstream, but you have to think. A half AA kid from Canada, his dad from Memphis. I'm sure he was at least interested in the rappers and culture of the city at some point. If i'm not mistaken they mentioned La Chat in his Nardwuar interview.

I love Mike Dean's production..so I'm not trying to downplay what he contributed but most of the beats/instrumentals he made [especially in the 90's] were basically southern blues and gospel made into rap beats. His use of baslslines, the piano, organs, etc comes from those genres...

lHis comment seems to be based on the fact that most of these youngin's today don't know enough about music to point that out... I don't now what he's trying to imply in that post but his production most definitely has heavy influences from black music..
