This might be the worst hire so far. You can sell me on Saleh bringing in a legit OC (Daboll) to help Ward, you could point to DeMeco's success and convince me something similar can happen in Tennessee. But McCarthy to the Steelers is just stupid. They already fired a guy who constantly delivered mediocre products, now you hire the master of that shyt? With no QB. An older coach who is going to feel like he has to win now and keeps the franchise on the treadmill of reaching for vet QBs instead of doing what's right: tank, trade assets, draft a QB and rebuild.

Tomlin wasn't fired

This is a solid hire. Say what you want about Mike; his qbs play well for him, and his teams win games. Hopefully they don't bring Aaron, so this offense won't be shackled by a qb that can't move.

I don't think he was, but it's up for debate.
Rooney said himself he was willing to run it back
Less than 12 hours after his team lost its seventh consecutive playoff game, Steelers president Art Rooney II was expecting to meet with coach Mike Tomlin to begin talking about a plan for the 2026 season. He said he was "willing to take another run at it" with Tomlin, despite the repeated playoff failures.

The conversation never got that far.

Tomlin came into Rooney's office and told him he was stepping down after 19 seasons as head coach, ending a reign that placed him among the winningest coaches in NFL history but was chalked by a nine-year drought in which the Steelers failed to win a playoff game.

"I wasn't expecting that conversation," Rooney said. "It went in a different direction."

Perfect post to follow up on. I sat here thinking why would Pittsburgh do this? They normally hire the young coach for a 15-20 year run. Even though it's only been 3 in history. McCarthy can win games. His track record shows that. I'm not doubting his ability to win the division. I just know in the playoffs it won't mean anything. Like you said there's no Qb here. So why would Mike McCarthy even take this job? Is it cause he knows he won't get fired as long as he is winning games. It would be nice if McCarthy could hire some young fast rising coaches or even coordinators on both sides. But his track record doesn't show that. Like i don't see anyone impressive from his coaching tree. I just hope Steelers fans aren't delusional thinking this is a superbowl team. It's not even close,. The problem is McCarthy will sell you a dream just like he did in the interview process I'm sure.

But they don't have a qb? That's a main reason im wondering why McCarthy even took the job
